The following are some of the guiding principles agreed upon at the inception of Lux Lodge.
.: Lodge to meet a maximum of twice per month: one stated meeting, the other (perhaps) moveable as to date, time and location.
.: Lodge to have a maximum size of somewhere around 40-50 members.
.: Members must commit to attend meetings. If absolutely unable to attend must notify Master/Secretary of that inability and the reason therefore.
.: Members must agree to demit from the Lodge if unable to make a minimum of 75% of the meetings during a year, unless absence is either well planned or beyond control, and is supported and approved by the Lodge.
.: Stated meeting agenda to be published about a week in advance so all may know what’s to be handled at the meeting.
.: All meetings will have some sort of refreshments. For the stated meeting, perhaps a full meal, preferably at a local restaurant instead of at the Scottish Rite Center. For the other meetings, decent food with an absolute minimum of paper and plastic. Wine to be the norm.
.: Breakfast and/or coffee meetings to humanize and personalize the Lodge and Freemasonry.
.: Members must use e-mail and check it at least once a day.
.: A class web site, aggressively updated.
.: All ritualistic work will be done in a first class manner. Tuxedos for all degrees, or dark suits, white shirts and long ties for others. EAs, FCs and new MMs to be assigned parts in degrees for which they are qualified.
.: Coats and ties for everyone for meetings where there is no degree.
.: One goal is to develop a true friendship/brotherhood among all the members.
.: The meaning of Masonry to be strongly stressed. Masonic education/information and discussion at all meetings.
.: Lodge to be opened for every meeting.
.: Quarterly social events, two for members only and two for members and wives. Classy events, well planned, on six-or-sixty concept. (Sts. John days; significant anniversaries, etc.)
.: Obtain first rate paraphernalia.
Finances
.: A fairly high joining fee in order to establish a Lodge account which will be productive.
.: Initial dues of $100 + per capita for first year. A life membership fund will be used to establish an initial investment account with which to begin to fund Lodge needs.
.: Life members, established in the paragraph next above, would still pay dues for the first two years.
.: Establish Lodge Life Membership Fund and Lodge Endowment fund and get some money into them so we may begin to develop a financially sound Lodge.
.: There will be no fund raisers. Members will fund what needs to be done, or it won’t be done.
