How to Join

Joseph L. Shell Daylight Lodge No. 837

Free and Accepted Masons

2B1 ... ASK1

Membership is open to ages 18 and older who believes in a Supreme Being and meet the qualifications and standards.  Men of all ethnic and religious background are welcome, for we define Masonry as a fraternal union of all good men, of every race and every religious faith, working together for the benefit of the human race.

One of Masonry's tradition is that we do not solicit members.  Men must seek membership on their own initiative.  When you're ready to join, here's how it works:

First, select the Lodge you wish to apply to, if you have not done so already.  This Lodge may be close to your work or home, whichever is most convenient.  List of Lodges are available at www.freemason.org.  Contact the Lodge you choose and ask for a membership information packet.

When you have completed the application form included in the packet, you must have it signed by two Masons who recommend you for membership.  Your sponsor or a Mason you know at the Lodge will assist with obtaining the signatures.  If you do not know a Mason at that Lodge, contact the Lodge's secretary for assistance.

Return your application and the application fee (the amount should be noted on your application) to your Masonic sponsor, who will submit it to the Lodge.  The Lodge will contact you to schedule visits in your home with selected Lodge members to discuss your application and answer your questions.  A report will be made at the next Lodge meeting, and your application will be voted on at the meeting.

You will be notified immediately of your acceptance as a candidate for the degrees, and you will receive instructions about participation in the three degree ceremonies.  The degrees explain Masonry and give you the opportunity to experience the Lodge's tradition and fellowship.  When you complete the degrees, you become a full member and entitled to all the rights and privileges of a Mason.
