The Handshake is one of the most powerful gestures between people. In
business, it symbolizes closure, affirmation, a contract. It also symbolizes warmth,
friendship, trust, and honor. Members of the Masonic fraternity have stretched forth their
hands to all men, using the handshake as an act of brotherly love, relief and truth, a
concern for others. The purpose of Freemasonry is quite simple: to strengthen character,
promote respect for others, and to help those in need.
Men of Honor, Character, Vision and Truth
Over one hundred thousand Masons in California belong to the oldest
fraternal organization in the world. They can be members of your family, your friends, or
leaders in your community. In fact, nine signers of the Declaration of Independence,
thirteen signers of the Constitution, and fourteen Presidents of the United States were
Masons.
Freemasonry & Your Community
What we do is as important as who we are. Masons contribute over
$1 million every day to charities like language centers and medical services for children
and youth; scholarships for young adults entering college; and, a unique Masonic Student
Assistance Program to assist California public school teachers in helping to prevent drug
and alcohol abuse among our youth.
The qualification for Masonic membership? Only men of high character
who believe in a Supreme Being are favorably considered for membership.
To seek membership, just ask a mason!
