Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

December 2006

From The East

The stated meeting in November was elections, and I am pleased to say that the following officers have been elected to serve the Lodge for the ensuing Masonic year:

Bill Malmstrom Master
Jim Gable Senior Warden
Robert Sohigian Junior Warden
Richard Rosenburg Secretary
Ernest Castillo Treasurer

I am confident that the Lodge will be in good hands during the next year and the years to come and I am looking forward to some of the activities the incoming Master has in store for us during the next year.

The officers of the Lodge were busy with practices before and during Thanksgiving week, and on the last Monday of November the Lodge conferred that Fellowcraft Degree. This is the first time in several years that we conferred degrees on two candidates on the same evening. Brother Gable sat in the East and presented a wonderful degree with the officers. Brother Schoonover was the Senior Deacon and gave the Middle Chamber Lecture to our candidates. So congratulations to our newest Fellowcrafts:

Sean Murphy
Tom Ellison

Also at the November stated meeting we voted to support our youth groups by a financial donation to the Job's Daughters for the assistance in the travel expenses of a local Grand Officer. Also to continue in a tradition that was started last year a block of tickets were purchased and present to the Rainbow Girls to see the performance of the Nut Cracker performed in San Jose.

As the Year is coming to a close, with the exception of the stated meeting on December 4th, there are no activities planned for the remainder of the year. So I hope everyone has a good and safe Holiday Season and a Happy New Year.

The year is truly coming to a close and with only a few weeks left until 2006 is over and with that my service to the Lodge as Master will also end. I wish to take the opportunity to thank all of the brethren who have assisted me over the past year. The officers, for the performance of their duties and degree work. The members of Los Altos Lodge, who sat on committees, or the temple board who came to the events, wrote me letters, or assisted in to many ways to mention. For without all of your support and friendship this journey would not have been possible. So, it is time for me to lower the sails, drop the anchor and tie down the wheel and allow another Master to take over the helm. Thank you all and may the blessings of heaven be upon you.

Fraternally,

Gregory Buschek
Master

As The Sun Is In The West

The holiday season is upon us and I would like to wish everyone the Happiest of Holidays. As I write this we will be doing two second degrees on Monday. Congratulations to Brothers Murphy and Ellison on being passed to the Degree of Fellowcraft Mason. And a big thank you to Brother Bob Rowen for filling in as Junior Warden.

December starts the installation of the lodges in Santa Clara Valley. There are three on December 2nd. Mtn. View 194 at 2:OOPM and Palo Alto Roller 346 and El Camino Research at 6:OOPM. We are next to last with Golden Rule 476 being last on January 15th I will attend as many as I can. There are only twelve lodges in Santo Clara Valley now. When I joined Masonry in 1983 there were seventeen and before that there were nineteen. There have been a lot of changes.

Our Grand Master says that we have to get ourselves known and get out into the community. Every one knows the Kiwanis and Rotary and the service projects that they do. We have to do something similar. Any suggestions? We need a bunch of younger men to come into our Lodge and start to take a leadership role. So many of our lodges are recycling Past Masters to the East when but just a few years ago there was a waiting list of Brothers wanting to get into the line. What happened?

This past month we have been practicing for the upcoming second degree and it has been rough. The top five officers and Chaplain are the only ones there and have to hop back and forth to fill all the stations. Brothers we need your help, if you are an officer you need to be there. One or two people missing makes it hard on the others to do their work, AT the last practice Bob Rowen helped us with some pointers of things that we were doing wrong. Being a Past AGL he was a big help to us. We also could use a couple of Brothers to help out as candidates. Come down on a practice night, we do our ritual but we also have fun.

This coming year I plan to have fun. Masonry can be fun. There is a time for ritual and a time for fun. But ritual can be fun sometime, you have to come to practices to see it.

We have a full line for 2007 with some new faces and I want to say Thank You to those that I asked to serve in 2007 that said yes the first time they were asked.

Shaken not stirred in 007
