Brethren -
Well we’re into fall and the schedule keeps being added to, making for a most busy year. I thought that after the Grand Communications and Grand Master’s Reception, that things would slow down and I’d get a bit of a breather. As John Wayne would say: “Not Hardly!”
Grand Lodge was a most pleasurable time as I got to renew some friendships with brethren I hadn’t seen for a while. You just never know who you’re going to run into. The legislation went smoothly so all is right.
The next weekend the Santa Clara Valley Masonic Officer’s Association held it’s reception for Larry Adamson, our new Grand Master. He’s one of the most personable people I’ve met in a while and we had a great time discussing Masonry and where we’re heading in the future. He presented sets of goldplated ’working tools’ to each of the attending Masters as a token of thanks for a truly fine event. Many kudos' to Golden Rule Lodge, who was the host for this years reception and to the San Jose Scottish Rite.
On the 23rd, Los Altos and Palo Alto -Roller Lodges held a reception for Lou Orozco, who was installed Assistant Grand Organist for Grand Lodge. Lou is a member of both Lodges and we wanted to show our appreciation for his years of service to our Lodges and how proud we were that he was appointed to such an exalted office. The event was well attended and featured none other than the Grand Master himself, Larry Adamson. We were joking that it made 3 weeks running that we were together. I asked him if it would be easier if he just moved in.
By the time you read this, we will have had a Third Degree for Brother Tom Dobrov on October 27th. I’ll print photos in the next edition of this special event.
After that we have the remainder of the month to catch our breaths, but not for long. We must continue to look ahead and there are many things still on the schedule. Here’s a heads-up so you can fill in your calendar.
As we head into November the first order of business is the Stated Meeting on the 3rd. It will be a full evening as it will host three (3) events: the flag reception ceremony, the annual Roll Call of members, and the annual election of officers. When I set up my year as Master, I purposely made the choice to combine the Roll Call meeting with the elections to get as much participation as possible. We’ll see if it works.
In December, the Stated Meeting and dinner is on the 1st. It will be a special event as we will present a 50 Year Golden Veterans Award to Brother Otho C. (Chuck) Harden. Chuck and his wife, Gloria, will travel to Los Altos from their home in Willits just to be here. Please make sure to attend.
In January, the Stated Meeting and dinner will be on Monday the 5th As usual, dinner will be at 6:30PM, and the Stated Meeting starting at 7:30PM. On Sunday, the 11th, the Los Altos Lodge 59th Installation of Officers will be at 3:00PM. Please attend and show the incoming Master your support for a most successful 2009 year. That’s it from the East. May you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Jim Gable - Master
Our Senior Warden seems to be missing in action from this edition.
Anyone knowing Bob’s whereabouts, please send him home!!!
Writing articles for many years you run out of new things to say. It was easy when the elevator project was going and there were updates to pass on. Now it takes a while to think of something new.
One of the new items that is happening is the change of meeting days for our Eastern Star Chapter. Miramonte Chapter in Mountain View asked to consolidate with Valley Star Chapter and in September a meeting was held in our Lodge Room with the two Chapters and they voted to become one. The new Chapter will be called Valley Star Chapter 141. They took the name of one chapter and the number of the other. The new meeting day is the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 PM. The new Matron will be Dawn Hicks and the new Patron is a recycled Bill Malmstrom, We were both members of both Chapters. There is a brand new, first timer in the line. Ernie Castillo was elected to serve as Associate Patron along with Merribeth May, who was a Miramonte Chapter member. There will be new faces helping to set up, serve dinners and cleaning up.
This brings me to repeat something that I’ve been bringing to the forefront in my articles. We have to get more of our members involved in OUR LODGE so we don’t have to consolidate. It has been said that Masonry will not die from lack of members, it will be from lack of officers. Get involved, become an officer and go all the way through the line. Keep our Lodge alive.
Bill Malmstrom, PM
Junior Warden
The 2009 Masonic Student Assistance Program
The 2009 Masonic Student Assistance Program or MSAP is a vital link to help schools educate teachers and staff in dealing with ‘at risk’ children. To better provide for this program, Los Altos Lodge will match individual member’s contributions, dollar for dollar, to a maximum total of $500. So make out a check to the Lodge and mark that it’s for the MASP Program in the memo block. Your donation is tax deductible and you will receive a receipt from Grand Lodge to honor your generosity.
