Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

November 2002

From the East

Wow, October and Grand Lodge Annual Communications is upon us.

There are some interesting resolutions with some potentially shocking changes.

At the November Stated meeting, (and the next Trestleboard) I'll be recounting how the votes went.

The last Monday in September (Sept 30) was again our roll call / coming home dinner. For those of you who missed it, I'm sorry. I think it was once again a memorable night. Next year please make every effort to attend.

If you have a problem with scheduling, please send a short note to be read when your name is called. Those present really enjoy hearing from our members who were unable to come in person. Remember the tradition (at least for 2 years running) is that Roll-call is the LAST MONDAY IN SEPTEMBER.

November is once again the month for Lodge elections. In addition to Masonic Elections, once again the Lodge Room will be used as a polling place for the public Elections on Nov. 5.

What a great way to get a steady flow of people through our Lodge building.

Who knows; someone may even notice some of the "stuff" in the building, and be curious enough to ask. November has also frequently been a Past Master's themed month.

This year our Past Masters will be conferring a 3rd Degree on Nov 23. Yes - that's a Saturday.

In planning this event it was decided that a Saturday might give more of our PMs a chance to come in from out of town. The day is scheduled to include a practice in the morning, a mid-day degree and an evening dinner get together. DETAILS!!!! Wor. Bill Malstrom is heading up the planning for this day. Please contact me or Bill if you'd like to take a role.

Looking ahead to December we have a couple of twists. First, the LAMTA meetings have been moved to the 2nd Monday, and this year we will be holding our Installation of Officers on the 3rd Monday. The Installing Officer will be none other than the newly installed Grand Master.

Come to the November meeting and make your vote count.

Fraternally,

Robert Lake
Master

The Westerly Wind

November is upon us and we have elections. Not only for Los Altos Lodge but for the general elections. Please exercise your right as members of Los Altos Lodge to attend the November stated meeting (Monday, November 4th) and vote for your elected officers. Also, please go to your polling place (Tuesday, November 5th) and vote in this important election.

Measure H is particularly important and applicable to my family. This measure will provide desperately needed funds to the Los Altos School District by increasing the school parcel tax for residents of Los Altos, Mountain View, Los Altos Hills, and parts of Palo Alto from $264.00 to $597.00 (+$333.00). This parcel tax increase is needed to prevent teacher lay-offs, keep class sizes in grades K-3 at 20 students to 1 teacher ratio, continue enrichment programs such as PE, music, library, and technology in the elementary schools and elective courses in Junior High. If Measure H does not pass it is projected that the current 6 elementary schools will be reduced to 4, class sizes will increase to a 34 to 1 ratio, and 6th grades will be moved to the Junior High schools.

Enrichment programs and electives will be eliminated along with custodian services and groundskeeping. Los Altos Elementary is currently the top school district in California.

In the October Trestleboard we indicated the Past Master's night would be on Saturday, November 2nd. This has been changed to Saturday, November 23rd (Please mark your calendars). We will have a third degree in the afternoon and a Ladies Night Holiday Dinner. The December Stated Meeting will be on Monday, December 2nd (6:30 Dinner, 7:30 Meeting.) The annual installation of officers will be Monday, December 16th at 7:00 pm. We will have an early-bird social in the dining room starting at 5:30. After the installation, we will be providing a reception/dinner downstairs at 8:30. The Grand Master, Most Worshipful William Holsinger, and his wife Jean will be attending. I am told there will be other Grand Lodge Officers attending as well. Please come join us and support your Lodge. If you would, please drop me a line and let me know if you are planning on attending the Installation on Monday, December 16th. My e-mail address is: cafreemason@earthlink.net and my home phone number is [snip] (please note this is a new phone number).

I am ordering the 25 year member pins that Brother Roger Lawler has graciously sponsored. For all you 25 year Masons, stay tuned.

Our Worshipful Master will be obtaining a new phone number/answering machine/notification service for the Lodge. Stay tuned for more details.

Finally, I am interested in your suggestions for Lodge events for 2003 and suggestions for improvements to Los Altos Lodge. Please feel free to give me a call or send me an e-mail with your thoughts. I'm going to need your support for 2003 if I am elected to Master. We still have some holes in the 2003 Officer's line. Please give me a call if you are interested in serving in the Officer's line. We need your help and support!

And now a story for our Ladies...

Didn't Do It

One afternoon a man came home from work to find total mayhem in his house. His three children were outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife's car was open, as was the front door to the house. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door.

He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she may be ill, or that something serious had happened. He found her lounging in the bedroom, still curled in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went.

He looked at her bewildered and asked, "What happened here today?" She again smiled and answered, "You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world did I do today?" "Yes" was his incredulous reply.

She answered, "Well, today I didn't do it."

Lodge Announcement

Babysitting!

The Lodge has decided to offer babysitting on a trial basis to encourage members to bring their wives to stated meeting dinners, and to help those members who may not be able to attend Lodge because they are taking care of their children or grandchildren at home.

Please call our JW or Master with the number of children you are bringing so that we can have appropriate helpers.
