Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

October 2007

As The Sun Rises In The East

Autumn began as it usually does on my birthday every year which means that my year as Master is almost over. The year has been fairly busy. We have done two Third Degrees, a first and a second. At present there is a blue application out so there might be another first coming up. Stay tuned.

Work on the elevator came to a screeching halt when the contractor was excavating for the elevator pit. They ran into a concrete pit. At first it was thought it was an abandoned septic tank, but as it was so close to the building I felt it was the original baptistery tank as some Baptist Churches do full immersion, and I heard that when the Lodge remodeled the lodge room they filled in the baptistery to make the East. Does anyone remember anything about this and shed some light 1 will try to put a picture in the trestle board showing it.

The officers have been working hard on advance stations and have qualified in the second degree. Our inspector requires that we qualify as a team able to put on the whole degree.

Brethren the lodge needs help. At present there is no Junior Warden. We must in stall the top three officers in order to maintain our Charter. We are not the only lodge that is having to recycle Past Masters. Someone who can dedicate the next three years to keep our lodge going. You will not be alone, the rest of the lodge will support you.

This week starts Grand Lodge. It will start on Friday September 28th and end on September 30th with the installation of the new Grand Master and his line. Business will be done on Friday and Saturday, with the election of officers on Saturday (my guess as I have not seen a schedule). There is a small amount of legislation, not like it use to be with page after page proposed changes. One piece that is to be considered it the qualifications required for a Past Master returning to the line within six years of being Master and what he has to qualify in for each station.

Shaken not stirred in 2007,

Bill Malmstrom, P.M.
Master

The West Wind

Wow! October already. Where did 2007 get to?

By the time you reread this Grand Lodge Will be past and we'll be looking forward to our annual Roll Call Meeting. Please mark your calendars as we really like to see you all in attendance to answer when your name is read. Congratulations to Brother Aaron Van Roo who became a Fellow-craft Mason on September 17th. The officer's did a top notch job on the degree and Los Altos Lodge should be proud. As we look ahead, the October practices will be for the 3rd Degree. All officers are expected to attend so that we may be ready when Aaron is ready to be raised. Now, on a more serious note, I would like to make a plea to the Past Masters. We have a fine line of officers for 2008, but are missing n Junior Warden. Bob Rowan & I have been exhausting every possibility to fill this office without affect. Due to the qualification requirements, our only prospects lie with the Past Masters. If you can make the commitment, please contact us ASAP. We have filled the rest of the offices (yes, even the Stewards), but need the time to allow these men to ascend the line for our lodge's future. Please consider it. As many of you may have heard, Nan & I are leaving for another week in Lancaster, PA at the end of October. The Gingrichs (my Grandmother's side) are having a family reunion and we're making the trek back to meet all those cousins. A good time should be had by all.

Well, that should do it from the West, Have a Happy Halloween!!

Jim, Senior Warden
