Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

October 2006

From The East

The number of months left in my term as Master of the Lodge are quickly fading, and now September is behind us. It was a busy month for the lodge with something going on every single Monday of the month. The most important of these was a First Degree, with Robert Sohigian presiding. The lodge initiated Sean Patrick Murphy as an Entered Apprentice Mason. This degree was well attended, and with the help of a few substitutes, the officers presented a great degree. I wish to congratulate Sean on his first step in the journey to becoming a Master Mason. For all of the members that missed this first degree, there was a petition read at the last stated meeting, and we are planning for a first degree on October 30. So again, I ask that you come and support your Lodge for this event.

While last month was busy, October brings to us 5 Mondays, and there is something to attend every single Monday of this month. Of course the first Monday of the month is our stated meeting. We will briefly cover the proposed Grand Lodge Amendments, for the week following our stated meeting is Grand Lodge.

The Grand Lodge will have its public opening on Sunday Oct 8th, then on the following two days will be the annual communications, reports, business, and elections of the Grand Lodge. The officers of Los Altos will in attendance to represent our membership at these sessions. The Installation of the new Grand Master will be on Wednesday, Oct 11th. On Saturday, Oct 14, the Santa Clara Valley Masonic Officers’ Association will have the first reception in the state for the incoming Grand Master. This event is at the San Jose Scottish Rite center, reception starting at 5:00pm and the dinner is at 6:30pm. The cost of the tickets for this event are $10.

Monday, Oct 16th, Los Altos Lodge will hold its Annual Roll Call Dinner. All Master Mason of Los Altos lodge are request to attend this event. The evening will start with dinner at 6:30 and then retire to the lodge room for call of the roll. There is no cost for the dinner, however reservation are requested to guarantee that there is enough food for everyone.

For the officers the following Monday is OAM. Los Altos lodge will be the host lodge for October, and the meeting will cover the results from the Grand Lodge Session. This brings us to the final Monday of the month, Oct 30th, which as I mentioned earlier in this article that we are planning for another first degree. This is the beginning of the busiest time of year for Masonry - especially if we are members in concordant bodies. Within the next few months will be Grand Lodge, Elections, Installations, and of course the winter holidays. I am looking forward to seeing you soon at these events.

Fraternally,

Gregory Buschek
Master

As The Sun Is In The West

The Lodge year is quickly drawing to a close and the beginning of a new Masonic year is about to begin. The planning of installation, visitations, trips outings, picnics are foremost in my thoughts. The top officers this year are I in the East, Jim gable in the west Robert Sohigian in the South, Craig Schoonover as Senior Deacon, David Anderson as Junior Deacon. I have heard that a couple of brothers are interested in going through the chairs who haven’t been officers in the lodge which is very encouraging.

The date of installation will be January 14, 2007. I moved it back to January so I would be free to attend my oldest daughter’s graduation from nurses training in December. I plan to get out a full years calendar as a pull out. Of course dates can be changed but at least we will have something to start with. Some thing that we might do is a wine trip similar to the one David Anderson did for our Eastern Star Chapter. Maybe he will chair one for Lodge. It was fun. The calendar will be in the December trestle Board so if you want to do something special let me know before Thanksgiving in order to put it on the calendar

Our Eastern Star Chapter will be celebrating their 100th Anniversary in March. With the consolidation of Sunnyvale and Los Altos Chapters they adopted Sunnyvale’s number. By doing so they keep the charter that was issued in 1907. Linda and I will be Matron and Patron during the 100th year. What an honor. Not only was I Master for our Lodges 50th But as a team Linda and I will be doing a 100th. WOW!!

It would be nice if our Lodge attended in force to show our support for Valley Star 250. They have supported us this will be our turn. The date will be on the calendar.

Next year I will be putting out the Trestle Board. What goes around comes around. The first time I was Master I put out the Trestle Board for a few months until a Brother stepped in and started publishing it. In the next few months I will be getting it set up in my computer and I will be ready to go in January or December if needed.

Linda and I will be traveling the later part of October and first part of November to my home state of Minnesota. But before I leave Brother Jim and I will again be doing the OAM Swiss steak dinner.

Southerly Breeze

The past ten days have seen a couple of firsts for me. The first one, was my first time in the East during an open lodge. And, it just so happened that it was for a first degree. I am extremely proud to say that Sean Murphy is now an Entered Apprentice Mason, and look forward to him moving through the degrees in our lodge.

I also hosted my first Masonic get together. There were about 20 brothers in attendance during the gathering (which lasted from 1 pm to 6 pm), and a good time was had by all. Brother Raj Tanden represented our lodge quite well, and I do hope to see more brothers at future gatherings. (Again, please contact me if you are interested in attending.)

I greatly enjoyed my second trip to Beijing. I was there for three weeks this time, compared with only two my first visit. I did indeed wear my Los Altos 712 shirt. (btw, please see me at a stated meeting if you'd like to purchase one... they are $15 and we still have a few available.) Pictures from my latest visit are at:

I was reminded at our latest OAM that all officers should come to the meetings. Also, all brethern from the lodge are invited to attend. As an added incentive, the lodge will pay for your dinner if you come to the OAM.
