Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

September 2006

From The East

Summer is coming to a close and fall is approaching. While some people measure the end of summer by the Labor Day weekend and the beginning of the school year, the astrological calendar marks the end of Summer with the fall Equinox. This year the sun will be crossing the equator on September 22nd late in the evening. This year the exact time is right after midnight EDT, so I’m being California centric and calling it the 22nd. This is the time when the suns path in the sky changes from the Northern to the Southern Hemisphere. One of two days a year that the duration of the day and night is of an equal duration where ever you may be around the world. It is also the beginning of the long night on the north pole, where direct sun light will not be seen again until March 21. So officially the summer is closing and the days will be getting shorter, which also signifies to me that my year as Master is now heading into it last Season. So much has passed and yet there is so much yet to do.

The Lodge had a joint BBQ with the Valley Star Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star. Bill Malmstrom was again the cook — overlooking the hot coals in the BBQ. It was hard to tell who had more members at this event the Lodge or the OES, so many of those in attendance are members of both. Many thanks to everyone who helped with this event. For those who haven’t been to the Lodge or looked out on the patio, some of the older furniture was replaced and the new furniture and umbrella was much enjoyed at this event.

The officers have been busy with the many practices that I have scheduled. I don’t think they have had more than a couple of Mondays “off” the entire summer. We are working in advanced stations, and the officers are preparing to qualify for next years stations. Looking at the calendar, during the next two months, there will be little time for practice. The officers of Los Altos Lodge will be conferring degrees during the next two months.

On a more official note, Los Altos Lodge has voted to confer the Degrees of Freemasonry upon Sean Patrick Murphy. He will be receiving the first degree of Masonry on September 18th at 7:30pm. We would like as many brethren to attend this degree as possible. So mark your calendars and come and support your lodge. Also as a long standing tradition of the lodge, the Master and Officers will invite the candidate to a dinner before hand at one of the restaurants in Los Altos. If any of the brethren wish to join us please contact me before September 15th.

See the last back page for more events to mark on your Calendar.

Fraternally,

Gregory Buschek
Master
