Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

August 2010

From The East

Please note: the calendar may change as we have many degrees coming up.

Another outstanding month. The Los Altos Arts and Wine Festival gave us another opportunity to come before the public. Thank you to all who helped out with the tours and handing out water to the parched attendees. I am grateful to have all the wonderful support that the Lodge members have shown this year. We have an outstanding Lodge and a number of great active men who make Los Altos one of the most friendly in California. The men and ladies are always available and ready with warm and fuzzy feeling towards all who grace our doors. As I write this trestleboard article, a couple of items to remember; the “mitts for kids program” can still use your support. To make a donation please use the Grand Lodge website and follow the directions. Also if you have not made your contribution to the Masonic Home, please do so. It is our obligation to support our widows and those less fortunate.

Best of all, yours in faith Bobbie

Masonic Education Tidbits

The following came by way of Thomas Evans of Arizona and a member of Los Altos Lodge #712

The Doors of Masonic Knowledge

What is one of the lamentable weaknesses of Masonry? That the newly initiated candidate is left to shift for himself, and not always instructed that there is more to Masonry than just a few grips, signs, and passwords. That is why it is the duty of every Master Mason to be a mentor, a teacher and a student.

The new Master Mason has received the key, the Degrees, and it is necessary if he desires to leave the rut of ritualistic routine and inform himself on the nature and character of the institution. He may opt to enter the recesses of its caverns with Masonic pick and shovel, in search o the jewels hidden there, and invest himself with the rich fruits of Masonic knowledge all the days of his life.

There are many more doors he can open; if he is desirous of finding wisdom, he must diligently seek it out; and if he would know the real design of Masonry, he must study, and observe, and meditate, on what he hears in the Lodge, otherwise the bondage of ignorance will never be removed. Finally, opening the doors and attaining the knowledge is useless, unless he works at practicing what he has learned.

Matt. 7:7 thru 13:1-17

From the Treasurer's Table

Brethren of Los Altos Lodge, I am including this article in our newsletter as an information for future reference. In the past I have made you aware of the need for our Lodge to have brothers able to take over the duties of our secretary and treasurer. It is a much healthier lodge if there is always someone able to fill the shoes of these two important offices. Towards that end I am putting together a series of articles that will describe the Treasurer duties. These articles should serve as reference material for future treasurer. The series of articles will cover: payroll (including W2 & W3), monthly records, reports to the lodge, annual tax filing (Form 990 & 199).

I will be glad to forward the articles to any interested brother. Just contact me and I will gladly send the information.
