Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

August 2009

From The East

Brethren

We have had a very interesting July when we enjoyed our annual BBQ w/ Valley Star Chapter OES and the Los Altos Art & Wine Festival the week before. Both events were great and if you were not with us, it is your loss.

At the Festival, we met and distributed a number of applications to interested men and also several for affiliation. Don’t forget that when someone comments that you are a Mason, the door is partially open for some discussion. Please learn to master the art of asking a rhetorical question. “Bill, you know of my active participation in my Masonic Lodge, why have you never asked me about it?” When he says to you “what is Masonry all about?” you can be prepared and you are thereafter, able to answer his questions.

The officers of the Lodge are preparing for proficiency in advanced degrees and we are working diligently on our work. Please answer the Sr. Warden in his request to get officers for next year. We can not survive without active leadership in the Lodge.

The West Wind

Brethren: July was a busy month starting with the July stated meeting on July 6th followed by the Los Altos Arts and Wine Festival July 11th-12th and the Lodge picnic on the 18th. As if that were not enough, those of us who belong to other Masonic organizations had many other activities to attend, like marching in the Redwood City parade on the 4th. Family and personal things prevented me from attending many of the lodge functions. I should first explain that Marlys and I had our 50th wedding anniversary on the 11th of July and had a number of relatives throughout the week so I missed the festival. Being the director of the Shrine Clowns it was my responsibility for the annual Christmas in July fundraiser BBQ on the 18th.

One of Maryls’ requests when I told her that I was going to become Master again was that, while she fully supports my decision, family must come first and I agreed. Seems like the older I get the more things pop up and I find that I only have so much time. Some say that is a good thing but I sometimes wonder why in the world the word “ no” never registered in my mind.

I want to say a few things about our practice sessions and our officer’s core. One of the tasks that fall upon me is to make sure we have a consistent line of officers for next year. I have asked for your help before but so far only Bill Malmstrom has come forward. I hope someone will step up to the plate and ask to become Junior Steward, Senior Steward or Junior Deacon. The lodge continuation depends on your involvement.

LET ME SAY THIS IN PLAIN ENGLISH. I NEED YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT.

Bobbie Byers, PM
Senior Warden

The Southern Breeze

Brethren,

What a fabulous last two weeks we have had at the Lodge. On Sunday July 12th, at the Los Altos Art and Wine Festival, a half dozen brothers, or more, set up a pop up tent in front of the Lodge set out our information and had a blast! Brother Bill Malmstrom set up the lodge so that we could give tours. We gave out at least six blue applications, some of whom had been actively looking for a Masonic connection. Both Brother Ernie and I did a least two tours each, of the lodge room and temple. Next year we can and should do more.

Saturday July 18th at Brawly Park in Sunnyvale, the Lodge joined with Valley Star Chapter for our annual BBQ and picnic. Tri Tips, sausages, chicken, pork ribs and all the fixings were enjoyed by all. The weather was great and the company and fellowship even better.

I would like to thank the Lodge for electing me to the LAMTA board for the next six months. I know I get an automatic seat if I am elected Senior Warden next year, but I look forward to getting a head start on helping the Temple Board in its endeavors. Finally, while the first Monday is our stated meeting, most other Mondays are spent by the officers polishing up and learning the ritual for the stated meetings and the degrees. I am really enjoying the lessons being taught there and would invite any brother to come by and enjoy the time with friends and brothers. We can always use a stand in candidate.

I look forward to seeing as many of you who can make it at stated meeting in August.

David Anderson - Junior Warden

The Widows Sons Masonic Motorcycle Association of Missouri

In Honor of Wor. Paul Ladd and his wife, I thought I would share the following from the Emessay Notes October 2007 Missouri Widows Sons:

The Widows Sons Masonic Motorcycle Association of Missouri is a Masonic booster club open to all members of the fraternity that enjoy riding motorcycles.

Our organization strives to come to the relief of Masons, widows, and orphans through volunteer projects and working with the Grand Lodge of Missouri to make sure any needs are met and exceeded.

Family events are held throughout the year varying from cookouts to large scale motorcycle events, such as poker runs and bike shows. These gatherings give our members a chance to show their families the positive impact that Masonry has had on their lives.

Membership

Our Masonic members are an internationally based group of Masons who have joined together to share the thrill of riding with other members of our fraternity.

To be a full member you must be a Master Mason in good standing, and own a motorcycle that is 500cc or bigger.

All our members are encouraged to support their local Blue lodge.

Most of our members hold office in their respective lodges or are Past Masters or Right Worshipful Brothers.

Masonic Ritual is very important to us, as that is what truly ties all of us together.

Our History

The Widows Sons International was founded in 1999 with the first Grand Chapter in the State of Illinois and many others soon followed. Currently we have chapters in 20 states and International groups located in England and Canada.

Even though I am not a part of the crazies who subject themselves to the pain an agony of severely tired butts (except in Lodge), I was please to see that we have a Masonic Group who subjects themselves to this kind of abuse.
