Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

August 2001

From the East

The Los Altos Art & wine Festival is history and it is felt that it was a success for us. I have in hand a yellow application with another from a Brother from Down Under to be brought back at the August Stated Meeting. Two blue applications were handed out and there could be at least a half a dozen guests at the August meeting.

Worshipful Bill Henry stopped by to say hello and visit a while. Bill it was good to see you, don't be such a stranger.

For the first time in years we did not do the Kids ID. We should re assess that program and plug it in at a time that both parents and kids are at a function. That is more in tune with what the program is about. A back to school night, a school carnival, or some other type of school activity. We should contact the school to see where we could be of the best use.

The visitation is moving forward very nicely. I was only able to book 15 rooms in the area. Ten at the Best Western in Grass Valley and five at Miners Inn in Nevada City. A number of us will go up on Friday which will be no host. Saturday there will be a practice at ten o'clock on the second section. To date (July 17) I have no firm commitments on the ruffian parts. Our Junior Past Master Robert Martin will be in the East for the second and third sections. Worshipful Paul Sterner has made reservations for us at the Trolly Junction Restaurant at the Northern Queen. The choice is Grilled Salmon or Frosted Prime Rib. Thank you Paul for your help.

The Coming Home has been combined with the Roll Call dinner on the 24th of September. Summons will sent to all members. This will be a stag dinner meeting.

This has been a very busy year and it is now over half over. There is still much to do. I just said to Linda that the great part of being Master at Los Altos is that there are so many really neat people to work with. All you have to do is ask someone to for help and a willing hand is put forth.

Worshipful Gunner Galsgaard has made arrangements for the First Annual Family Picnic which will be held August 26 at Shoups Park on University Avenue in Los Altos. The fair will be Tri-Tip, salads, corn on the cob, watermelon, and the usual appetizers that we have always had. Cost will be $ 10.00 for those over 12 and $ 5.00 for those under, with children under five free.. Bring the whole family, kids and grand kids, let's make it a truly family picnic. We will plan to have games for the kids and adults as well. Time will be 1:00P.M. to 4-5 or what ever. .... NEWS ALERTÊÊ As we were going to press Gunner alerted me that there is a Band Consort at the other end of the park and the parking will be the pits. We could operate a shuttle with a few of us getting there early and save spaces close to the picnic area. The plus part is that we will have music at no cost. The bands play 40s, 50s, type music. What more could we want. Thank you Gunner for your help.

Why is there so much to do and so little time to do it or so it seems. There is so much that I would like to do in my year as Master but I feel some of them will not happen. Maybe those that are coming up behind me will find space in their year to do one or two of them. We have young committed officers in our line and the zeal that they have will, I hope, fire up the Lodge to move into the second half of our first century with the enthusiasm that the Lodge had when it was founded and purchased the building that is now our Temple. I will forever be a very strong supporter of this Lodge. IT IS THE BEST

Fraternally

Bill Malmstrom, P.M.
Master

The Southern Breeze

Hello again. In last month's Trestleboard I explained that I would like to increase my understanding of the current state of our membership. I have put together a survey with a list of questions that is inserted with this Trestleboard. Please do me the courtesy of answering these questions and returning the survey to me. I plan on using this information to plan my year as Master. Some of you (six participants out of a potential 188) have already received the survey and provided me with your insight.

Thank You. I am hoping to receive many more to increase the significance of the poll. I would like to have the surveys returned within two weeks of receipt (by August 15th).

For the August 6th Stated Meeting dinner we will have: Hot Rolls, Green Salad, Chicken Breast Surprise, Top-Your-Own Potato Bar, Pineapple Upside-down Cake. The cost will be $10.00. Please make your reservations by Noon Thursday, August 2nd. Please help us fill up our Lodge sidelines,

Richard G. Weyers
Junior Warden
