Brethren — Here is a little quiz about the Declaration of Independence. Good Luck!
1. When did the Continental Congress actually pass a resolution of Independence ?
2. Who was on the committee assembled to draft the declaration?
3. What was one of the reasons that Adams told Jefferson, the youngest man on the
committee, to draft a declaration?
4. What was something Congress cut out of Jefferson's draft of the declaration?
5. Which two key players in the history of Independence died on the fiftieth anniversary
of the declaration?
Don’t look at the answers first. Oh Darn, you did.
1. July 2
2. John Adams, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Robert Livingston, and Roger Sherman
3. Adams knew that he was unpopular and considered obnoxious by many delegates. In
order for the Declaration to be accepted, he had to keep a low profile. Therefore Jefferson
was asked to do the draft.
4. Of the 86 changes made, most important was the removal of all references to slavery.
5. Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died within hours of each other on July 4, 1826.

Mission of Freemasonry
“If we work upon marble, it will perish, if on brass, time will efface it; If we rear temples, they will crumble into dust; If we work upon immortal minds, and imbue them with principles, With the just fear of God and love of our fellow men, We engrave on those tablets something that will brighten to all eternity.” Bro. Daniel Webster (1782-1852)This is something I took from the Southern California Research Lodge Review:
What is Masonic Knowledge? “It is not school. It is information about Masonry. It is not history. It is custom. It is not ritual. It is creating a culture of understanding our traditions. One can get it from books, discussion groups, the internet (but be careful – cyberspace has some bum info), or from the traditions of one’s lodge. But no matter how obtained, it can’t be acquired by not participating in some fashion in the Masonic experience. What a waste to go to through the initiatic experience, become a Master Mason and never again darken the door of one’s lodge. Why does this happen? Why do we let it happen?” Author unknownPlease join us for fellowship.
Your Officers are trying hard to make Los Altos Lodge interesting and a special place to enjoy each other’s friendship. We hope you will join us for the next stated meeting.
