Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

April 2008

From The East

Brethren -

March has been a very busy month indeed.

First I wish to congratulate Dan Hales on receiving his 2nd Degree. Keep up the good work Dan. You’ll be a Master Mason in no time.

Held our Sweethearts dinner on the 17th. While attendance wasn’t what we had hoped, I understand that a good time was had by all.

I have been off on a twelve day Masonic vacation to Pennsylvania where I visited 2 Blue Lodges, 1 Commandery, and the Harrisburg Scottish Rite on 3 occasions. The last Scottish Rite effort was to help assemble some of the 3000 pies they made for a fund raiser. Yes, they actually take orders in advance and hand make them all!!! I especially want to thank Laverne Gibble and his wife Tina for supplying me their guest room through the entire visit. Laverne is the Treasurer of Lancaster Lodge #43 and he and Tina have become a very dear friends in the past year. I also want to thank Greg Stewart, Master of Jerusalem Lodge #506 for making me welcome during his very busy Lodge Anniversary and District Deputy Grand Master’s official visit. In all, I can’t begin to relate to you the warm hospitality I received during my travels. This, combined with the thrill of sitting in the same Lodge and Commandery that my Grandfather was a member of almost 100 years ago made this trip a once in a lifetime experience.

As I publish the Trestleboard before the previous month’s end, we still have Ed Clarke’s Hiram Award Presentation on March 31st. The Lodge is providing the catered dinner at 6:30PM with the presentation to follow. Please make sure to attend and support Ed on his special evening. Reservations are REQUIRED, so please call early so we can set the catering up correctly.

In April, we have our monthly dinner and Stated Meeting on the 7th. Bill and I will be cooking up a storm so come join us and share the fun.

On the 14th, we will be presenting our Public Schools Awards. We will present Ms. Sue Prescott our Teacher of the Year honors, and a $2000 Scholarship to Ms. Liem Trong Tran. This is another Lodge supplied dinner at 6:30PM with the awards to follow. Again, reservations are REQUIRED.

I have scheduled a tentative 3rd Degree for the 28th, so our officers will be hard at work in preparation of that event.

The elevator is making GREAT strides and we can see light at the end of the construction tunnel. Check Bill’s article for the latest news and photos.

That’s it from the East. Have a safe and prosperous spring.

Jim Gable – Master

The West Wind

Brethren,

The name of the game at our Lodge needs to be Participation”. Your Officers are participating in the execution and preparation of their duties. We have committed ourselves to keeping the business meetings brief and well organized. We are energetic in preparation for our ritual duties in not only the stations we hold today, but also the advanced stations that you expect us to assume.

We need your participation as well. Please, if you are not attending and participating, try to do so. The friendship and camaraderie displayed here in Los Altos, cannot be matched in too many other places in California. We have a Great Lodge that works well together!

Come join us!

Fraternally,
Robert D. Rowan
Senior Warden

The Southern Breeze

The last few weeks have seen a lot done on the elevator project. The under lining of the roof (felt) has been installed, making the building weather tight. Windows have been installed on both floors and the openings have been cut into second floor hall way. The barriers have been removed on the first and second floors making everything accessible. No more walking through the lodge room to get from the front to the back.

The fire sprinkler fitter is installing new sprinkler heads in both hallways and the elevator shaft. The electrician is installing the down lights and plugs in the hall and has connected the power to the elevator.

The last time I stopped by to go over the layout of exit lights with Bill, the electrician, I saw the elevator move. The installers have the platform in and are working on finishing the installation of equipment in the shaft before building the car.

The outside is also shaping up. The first two coats of stucco has been applied and it’s starting to look like a building. One more coat and it will be ready for paint.

The Temple Board at it’s last meeting picked out carpet for the public areas. Maybe by this time next month I can report that it is finished.

Bill Malmstrom, PM
Junior Warden
