Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

March 2006

From The East

The month of February and Valentines is now over. During the past month the Lodge held its annual crab feed. The dinner consisted of lots of crab, spaghetti, with a salad, fresh garlic bread, and sherbet ice cream. The dining room was filled with lodge members, their families and friends. The food was well prepared and enjoyed by all. The only thing to surpass the food was the wonderful fellowship that an event like this allows. Again, as with previous years, we heard nothing but complements on the food and the event in general and that our guests would return for next years event. This is becoming a favorite event among the lodge members, with people already looking forward to the next years event. Thank you to Valley Star Chapter, the lodge officers, and members who assisted in making this a wonderful event. On the second Monday, March 13th at 7:30 pm, at Mount Mariah Lodge, Los Gatos there is a 3rd degree being performed by a unique set of members. Electricians by trade from different lodges in the bay area will confer this degree. The candidate for this degree is also an electrician. Bill Malmstom will be part of the degree team. Several of the officers from Los Altos are planning to attend this degree, so add this to your calendar. The OAM will be on the third Monday of this month. At this OAM the Grand Master will be the honored guest. This is known as the Morgan Hill chicken feed, and has been a regular event of the OAM for many, many years. The lodge is again supporting the local Little League and I need to acknowledge Worshipful Rick Weyers who has acted as the liaison for the Lodge. We will be receiving a schedule shortly and plan some events accordingly. The stated meeting in April will be the official visit from our Inspector, Doug Clifford. On April 10th, Los Altos Lodge will be presenting to Kermit Williams the Golden Veterans Award.

Fraternally,

Gregory Buschek
Master

Elevator Update

The plans have been submitted to the city for the addition of the of the elevator to the building This project will add an elevator that will access all floors of the building and also add a walkway to connect the front and back buildings on the second floor. This will allow easy access to the entire building without using the stairs. After the initial review it was determined that a variance would be required before the city would issue permits for construction. The major obstacle is that the total square footage of the building after adding the elevator and walkway exceeds a build limit based upon the lot size. While it doesn't seem like an elevator would add that much floor space, when you start adding in the landing space on all 3 floors and the connecting walkways, this total addition takes it over the city lot size limit. The first meeting with the city to get an approval for this variance has been completed without any problems at all. However there are more meetings and reviews of the plans that must be completed before the permits are issued. It appears that this approval process will not take that much time nor will it require any major changes to the existing plans, and with the continued efforts of the temple board we will be breaking ground and starting construction within the next 3 to 6 months. I know that many of us are looking forward to the day we can use the elevator for accessing all the floors of the building. As more information becomes available on the dates and schedule it will be published in the Trestle Board.
