Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

February 2008

From The East

Brethren –

On January 6th, Los Altos Lodge held its 58th Installation of Officers. I am proud to announce that for the first time in several years, we installed a full line, complete with an Organist, and that all officers were present. I would further like to thank our Installing Officers, Dan McDaniel, A. Glenn MacBride, Gregory Buschek and Luis Orozco for their outstanding work. May our lodge continue to grow and prosper.

I would also like to welcome our newly affiliated member, Brother Dann Thompson, who was elected at the January Stated Meeting. Welcome Dann!

By the time you read this, Mr. Daniel Hales should have been initiated our newest Entered Apprentice. A hearty welcome to you too, Daniel !

First up this month is the Super Bowl Party on the 3rd @ 3PM. Come watch the game with us. It’s a pot luck, so bring your favorite snacks to share.

At the February Stated Meeting we will have a sumptuous dinner for your enjoyment. Nan & I will be cooking up a storm, so don’t miss it. During the meeting we will have the semi-annual reports from the Secretary, Treasurer and LAMTA.

The elevator continues to make progress despite the past inclement weather, Check out the enclosed photos to check on our progress.

Finally, the Trestleboard now has a new look. I hope you all enjoy the new format and feel free to drop me a line with any comments you may have.

That’s all from the East. Don’t forget your Valentine on the 14th!

Jim Gable - Master

The West Wind

The Dash of Life

I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning...to the end.
He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke that date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.
(1934 -1998)

For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth...
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much we own;
The cars...the house...the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard...
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile..
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy's being read
With your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

The Southern Breeze

Belonging to different Masonic organizations I get many e-mails. This came attached to one from Eastern Star. In the Worthy Matrons initiation work and in the closing prayer for lodge is the word “inculcate” (the prayer use s the past tense “inculcated”). It is a word we do not use in everyday conversations. Have you ever thought of its meaning?

“Word of the Day Archive” Thursday January 15, 2008

Inculcate \in-KUHL-kayt; IN-kuhlkayt\, transitive verb

To teach and impress by frequent repetition or instruction.

Those who have gone through the line at Lodge or any of the other Masonic bodies know all about frequent repetition. There are so many similarities in the Ritual work that there are times that work in one body finds its way into another. This is especially true in the obligations. They are all very much alike.

The Secretary's Table

By now all the members of Los Altos Lodge should have sent in their 2008 dues. Sad to say that 29 members are not in good standing. If you have not sent in your dues please do so as soon as possible.

Thank You
