I would like to thank everyone for the support and help with the installation of officers. It went so smoothly. The Installing team did a great job. Thank you to the Past Masters who closed the Lodge after installation, I am sure they did perfect Ritual work. The turn out was good. The food and refreshments were top notch. A special thank you to Valley Star for the set up and decorations in the dining room and clean up afterwards. They did a great job.
The month of February will be my first Stated Meeting and as I write this I do not know if I will be there. In three days I go in for a total left knee replacement and I will try to get the trestle board out before that.
This month we have two annual social events. The Super Bowl party on February 4th and the Crab Feed on February 19th. The Super Bowl is a bring something to share (chips and dip, etc) The lodge will have burgers and hot dogs.
The crab feed will be a joint venture of the Master, Senior and Junior Wardens.
Worshipful Ford is working on the April Visitation. When I talked to him on Saturday the 20th the April calendar for Placerville had not been posted and he didn’t know what weekends were taken up with some local event. More on this later.
Our Junior Past Master Greg moved from the east in lodge to the east in Knights Templar. He was installed Commander of Palo Alto Commandry 47 on January 18th. Congratulations Greg.
Brethren the officers need your help. Monday the 25th we had a 3rd degree practice. There were a lot of holes in the cast. We could use dedicated members who, when we have a degree could fill the extra parts that are not officer parts, i.e. the three Fellow craft, sea/way faring man, etc. both in the degree and at all practices. Our degree teams have always done a good job on degrees. We owe it to the candidates to keep it that way.
It is with sadness that I also announce the passing of Brother Joseph Sweeney’s wife Roberta.
Shaken not stirred in 2007,
Bill Malmstrom, P.M.
Master
OK my brothers, here we go!
Yet another year has started. It seems like just yesterday that the 2006 installation was upon us. Now the 2007 year has officially started and it promises to be a hum-dinger. Bill, Bob & I are planning some really great events so come on down and enjoy the fun.
My term as Senior Warden will see me in advanced stations from the get-go. As most of you know, Bill will be having his knee replaced on January 25th. That means that Sean Murphy’s 3rd degree on the 29th and the February Stated Meeting will be all mine. But don’t fret, I’ve got the Stated Meeting Dinner menu all set (see the back page) and I’ll just be running around a little more than usual. The most important thing is that Bill recoups fast, so keep those cards and letters coming.
As I already stated, we will be having a 3rd degree for Sean Murphy on January 29th. So I’d like to see everyone in attendance when he’s raised. Tom Ellison is also hard at work on his 2nd degree proficiency, and we’re planning on holding his 3rd degree during a visitation to the Mother Lode Country in April. More details will be forthcoming on this visitation as we get them finalized.
By the time you read this, Los Altos will have already hosted a Warden’s Breakfast. The Masters of ’08 (this year’s Senior Wardens) are inviting the Junior Wardens to some special events in the coming months to improve inter-lodge communication and cooperation. This should help ensure smooth transitions between officers in the upcoming years. Besides, we’re just having a little more fun as we climb the ladder toward the East. I’ll report back you in March on our progress.
Well, that’s about all from my chair. May you all have a wonderful February, and don’t forget your sweetheart on the 14th. . . . !
Jim Gable
Senior Warden
Brethren all:
Although the “Masonic Rail Road” was fully in force last month, I look forward to being a contributing member of Los Altos Lodge No. 712. Thank you for your confidence in electing me as Jr. Warden. I will do my best to uphold the Los Altos Lodge traditions and will try my best to bring some fresh thinking to our events.
We have several immediate dates upcoming that I hope will be of interest to everyone.
February 4th is Super Bowl Sunday and we expect all Los Altos Masons who look forward this event, to be present for our Super Bowl Party. Pot Luck beginning at 2:00 PM and ending sometime after the game is over. The Lodge will supply the Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, Chili, Soft Drinks etc. and you supply the rest. Come join us for the fun!
February 19th is our “World Famous” Crab Feed. Everyone always seems to “wait a time with impatience” for this annual event. Get your tickets soon!
Recently, I re-read an MSA Short Talk Bulletin called “The Working Tools”. I strongly recommend that you get a copy yourself and increase your own Masonic knowledge. Consider the following from that article:
“The Twenty-fur inch gauge is an instrument used by operative Masons to measure and lay out their work, but in speculative Freemasonry we are taught by its symbolism to divide our time into three equal parts, whereby are found eight hours for refreshment and sleep, eight for our usual vocations and eight for the service of God and humanity. There is an object in view and an end to be attained. It is, therefore, a symbol of purpose.”
Think about it.
