Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

January 2009

From The (near) East

Brethren -

It seems somewhat strange to me to be returning to the East once again but I’ll just bet that we can handle the trials and afflictions that we are destined to endure. All of us, not just myself.

Congratulations are in order for Wor. Bill Malmstrom, who was selected as the “Mason of the Year” for the Valley of San Jose, of the Scottish Rite Orient of California. Wor. Bill, the honor was richly deserved!

Wor. Gable has nearly completed his term of service to the Lodge in a most admirable fashion and we should all applaud him for his unselfish work. Please join with me at our January stated meeting to greet him warmly with all due Masonic decorum.

I am honored to have been selected to serve Los Altos Lodge No. 712 for the ensuing year and I promise you my very best efforts. Join us on January 11th at 3:00 PM for the Installation of your Officers for the year 2009.

Bob Rowan - Master-Elect

The West Wind

My Brothers, First off, let me say how thankful I am to Bill Malmstrom, PM for serving as Junior Warden while I finished my year as Master of Daylight Lodge. At the 2007 Grand Lodge sessions I told Jim Gable and Bill that I would be happy to help out in the line at Los Altos. Because of my commitment to Daylight Lodge however, I would not be in a position to hold an elective office. I didn’t really think they would take me seriously and little did I expect that I would be back in the line so soon? Bill gave up his time and served as Junior Warden this year and to hold open a position for me while I completed my year as Master. I am constantly reminded that Los Altos is a very special place and it is indeed lucky to have brothers like Bill Malmstrom as a guiding force. This year it has been my privilege to serve as Master for two degrees at Los Altos which I thoroughly enjoyed. As you know Daylight Lodge doesn’t give degrees very often and when the opportunity presents itself I find it a pure joy. A large lodge such as Los Altos should have a large turnout for degrees, so expect to receive a call from me urging you to attend lodge and help out with future degrees. I promise not to ask you take a part if you don’t feel up to it, but I would like to see you on the sidelines. What better way to get to know your officers and new brothers than to attend a degree or stated meeting.

Who is that new Senior Warden?

Bobbie Lee Byers, Married 50 years in July (Marlys), two children Wesley and Christie. Graduated San Jose State, retired from SLAC 38 years. Raised 1966 Redwood City #168, Life member Los Altos #712, Member Daylight Lodge #844 (master 2008), Life member AASRM, Life member AAONMS, loves fishing, hunting, camping, clowning.

What can I do to make Lodge more enjoyable for you? Give me a call.

Yours in Faith

Bobbie Byers
Senior Warden * Elect

The Southern Breeze

Brethren,

This being my first article for the Los Altos Lodge Trestleboard, allow to introduce myself. I am David Anderson. I was raised a Master Mason in January 1996. I am married to my lovely wife of three + years, Melissa. We live in Santa Clara and are both members of Valley Star Chapter 141 of the Order of the Eastern Star. I am a three-time patron of that Chapter.

While I had heard of Freemasonry, and even knew some Freemasons, there is no history, to my knowledge of anyone on either side of my family belonging to any Masonic organization. I became a Mason, because I had met and liked the people at the Sunnyvale Chapter of Star. Yes, to quote one the brothers, I am a "petticoat" mason. However I was accepted, petticoats or otherwise, and I am proud and happy that I am now going up the line, hopefully to become in 2011 Master of Los Altos Lodge.

David Anderson
Junior Warden-Elect

On the Lighter Side

I had just gotten off the subway when a ragged-looking street person came walking up to me and asked, "Excuse me. Do you have a dollar?" Ordinarily I'm a soft touch, but I hadn't been able to get to an ATM that day and my purse was practically empty. "I'm sorry. I don't," I apologized. "Here you go," he said, handing me a single. "Good luck."
