Los Altos Lodge No. 712 Trestleboard Articles

January 2008

LOOK TO THE EAST

Brethren - Here we are embarking on yet another year. My how the time does fly by.

Our Installation of Officers will be on January 6th, at 3PM. We will endeavor to make it short and sweet, with a full dinner afterward . Please come share with us in the initiation of Los Altos Lodge's 58th year. Officers please note that the installation practice will be on Saturday, January 5th at 2PM. This is a mandatory practice for all officers.

2008 looks like a very busy year indeed. The night after installation is our Stated Meeting and as always, Bill and I will be preparing a great dinner for you to enjoy. The following Monday, January 14th, the officers will be practicing the first degree. Sideliners are always welcome. Come watch the fun.

I have tentatively scheduled a First Degree Conferral on January 21st, pending the outcome of the investigation committee and the lodge vote at the Stated Meeting. Please mark your calendars to come help initiate a new brother.

On Thursday, January 24th we have our first Officer's Association (OAM ) at San Jose Lodge #10 in the Masonic Center on the hill in San Jose. ALL officers are expected to attend . Dinner starts at 6:30PM with the meeting to follow at 7:30PM.

The month rounds out on Monday, January 28th with an practice for upcoming second degrees.

GREAT NEWS!!! We are now back to making excellent progress on the elevator. The hall foundation is now complete and the framing of the walls has begun. We lost a little time the week before Christmas due to the rain, but it's onward and upward (Literally!) The scheduled completion is now mid-March. As soon a we have a definite finish date we will set-up a gala dedication event, so stay tuned.

That's all from the East. I hope you all had a very happy and safe holiday season.

Happy New Year!!!

THE WEST WIND

My Brothers All:

This is not a new thought but one perhaps worth resurrection. We CAN promote from within, is a theme once used in the 20thDist, of the GL of Texas. They had a gavel made with those words on it, and passed it around the District. It took three members from another lodge to get the gavel, at a stated meeting of the current lodge holding the gavel. Then all other lodges within the district were notified of the "new lodge in possession" with the date/time of their next stated meeting. In the event of a tie when multiple lodges visited, the current lodge master would flip a coin. Dual members of both lodges (current and visiting) lodges did not count as a visitor unless he was an installed officer of the visiting lodge.

Anyone interested in helping?

Bob Rowan, PM
Senior Warden - Elect

FROM THE SOUTH

As we start a new Masonic year I would like to apologize for a remark I made at the last stated meeting. It was not meant to be political or religious. I felt that it was just news worthy and I did not mean the Lodge should do anything. If I upset anyone I am sorry. Enough said.

As I said in my last article I am just keeping this chair warm, so don't be surprised if you see Brother Bobbie Byers in the South more than you see me.

The duties of the Junior Warden are to see to the refreshments with the help of the Senior and Junior Stewards. I hope the stewards take note of this.

At the last practice of the year we were working on the Entered Apprentice Degree. We read a blue application at the last stated meeting and we were getting ready for a First Degree early in the year. What a great way to start out Jim's year as Master.

Jim has planned the menus for the year and they look good. We will not go hungry. January will be spaghetti and meat balls with all the trimmings. His theme is "Father Time/New Year". I wonder if he is trying to tell me something.

I will continue to take pictures of the progress of the elevator in order for those that can't make to lodge can see how the building is being improved and made accessible to everyone.

Bill Malmstrom, PM
Junior Warden - Elect
