       From the South

Greetings Brethren! I can't believe that it is already the month of May!  Where have the last four months gone?  Pretty soon it's going to be December and it's time for installation.  Well let's not jump too far ahead lets keep it to this month.  At any rate we are well into our year and have been very busy so far.

May is the time to celebrate Mother's Day (11 May), Memorial Day (26 May), Armed Forces Day (17 May), National Teacher's Appreciation Week (6-12 May), Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, Cinco de Mayo and Stepmother's Day (1 May).  This month even set aside one day for Brother's Day (24 May)., this is one amazing month, brethren!

Last month, I had the pleasure of attending the Junior Warden's Retreat in Ontario, CA.  I must say that it was a very intensive training program and a very exciting event as well.  It's jam-packed with important lodge management information that will assist me in my progress towards the Master's chair and interestingly enough, became the best opportunity to meet up and network with as many Junior Wardens within the SoCal area.  Thank you, Brethren, for giving me this opportunity.

In April 22, I had the pleasure of assisting our WM Roman Ladaw, Bro. Greg Sagmaquen (event coordinator) and WB Ed Austria (presiding Master of Ceremony) is giving out award certificates during our Public School Observance Day award presentation.  It was a heartwarming experience to stand before a huge crowd of Public School workforce so appreciative of the efforts of our lodge.  But is is indeed to them that we are so grateful of that night because of their direct involvement with our children's education,  The dinner was a bit overwhelming because of so many unexpected guests.  For the first time in recent memory, our chefs almost ran out of food but still managed to feed them somehow.  To the brethren that helped out, thank you all for making this event a successful one.

This month's Stated Meeting and Family (Mother's Day) Dinner is on May 13.  Our menu will be grilled pork chops, oven brown potatoes plus all the accompaniments.  Please mark your calendar now and plan on bringing the wife or the "Mom" that is, for a nice dinner.  After dinner, we will recognize WB Bobbie Worford and bestow upon him a 50-year pin award.  Please join us in wishing him well and many more years of service to the Masonic brotherhood.

And lastly, I hope that everyone in our great Fraternity will pledge to himself to help, on all levels, by supporting our Fraternity as much as possible.  Even if it means coming out to only a few lodge meeting or supporting only a few other lodge functions.  Every Mason does count!  Every Mason does make a difference!

Wishing you all good health and happiness.
