Our
History:
On
December 10, 1948, a meeting was held at the Oyster Loaf Cafe in Oxnard to discuss the
formation of a new Masonic Lodge for the purpose of bringing together the
Sojourners. Brother Bernard C. Mickle was appointed chairman. Brother Gus
Quick, Inspector of the 510th Masonic District was also in attendance.
On August 19, 1950 at the Oxnard Masonic Temple, Most Worshipful Grand Master Ellsworth
Meyer instituted Anacapa Lodge, U.S. with 35 charter members.
On November 25, 1950 at the Oxnard Masonic Temple, Grand Lodge convened for the purpose of
constituting Anacapa Lodge No. 710 with Most Worshipful Grand Master Arthur Paulsen
presiding.
Brothers Mickle, Brann, and Samuelson were the only members who transferred from Oxnard
Lodge No. 341.
After the Masonic Temple was destroyed by an earthquake in February 1957,
the Lodge met in various places - the Knights of Columbus Hall; the old vacant telephone
building (which was renovated to fulfill our needs); the Odd Fellows Hall, and in 1961, we
moved to our present location, the new Masonic Temple.
Anacapa
Lodge
was
named after one of the nearby islands - later learning it meant "Lost
Ship."
All charter members
donated $10.00 each. Of the 35 charter members, eight became Masters and one an Inspector.
