My Brethren,
Spring is gone and the heat of the summer is here! While we are still busier than ever with our daily activities at work and at home, things are also still heating up at the Lodge with many events coming up. By the time you read my message, ‘high twelve’ of Masonic Year 2003 has already gone by. The sun has reached its zenith and is now on its way down towards the ‘West’ern horizon. And that only means one thing, the challenges for me in Masonic Year 2004 are on the horizon. Although anything can still happen between now and the beginning of Masonic Year 2004, I just want you to know that I am looking forward to serve, if it is your will and pleasure, in that exalted chair in the East as all those Brethren who had occupied it in the past 78 and a half years. Our incumbent Master has indicated to me his unqualified support in the future and I am hoping that all of you, my Brethren, particularly the officers, will do the same. Your complete support is paramount to the success of the ensuing Masonic Year. Let us continue to take advantage of the momentum we started this Masonic Year to keep us moving and having continuous years of labor, fun and enjoyment. Thanks to all of you and I hope to see you at our many activities in July and August, particularly at the Hiram Award Night for Wor. Emment Van Ness, PM.

Happy Independence Day to all of you!
Steven Venadas, SW

My Brethren,
A three-day (May 2—4, 2003) Junior Warden’s Retreat was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles hosted by Senior Grand Warden David R. Doan and his wife, Teri. They religiously promoted the theme “Values that Brighten the Communities, Share the Light!”
In the beginning, thinking of the retreat and knowing that it was a three-day event, it sounded too long for me. But once I was there as one of the participants and eventually became actively involved, it made my time there truly worthwhile. I even felt telling myself, “I wanted to stay more.”
To share with you, one of the activities in the retreat/workshop was the determination of specific personality styles. Performance of this activity made you explore and define your unique style and also made you discover your true personality. In so doing, everybody had fun and a real good time. Most importantly, when you become a leader, it is a very good tool to identify the individuals in your organization/team who are good at each role. Once you are able to do so, you would discover how efficient you could be. It worked for my group; it should work for you, too! So, I would like to encourage the future Junior Warden(s) to attend the retreat once invited. It is worth attending! It is essential for your growth! My sincerest thanks to the Lodge for giving my wife and myself the opportunity to attend the mentioned retreat.
On June 10, 2003, Bros. Garcia and Legazpi were initiated. Please join me in congratulating our newly initiated Brethren. My sincerest congratulations to the officers of our Lodge for an outstanding degree work performance. Let’s keep it up!

Fraternally,
Mike Garcia, JW
