The Small Town Lodge |
|
We live in a small town and our Blue Lodge reflects our “Small Town” values.
We stand when our nation’s flag passes, we kneel for the children’s identification fingerprinting, extend our hands in aide to others of our town (recently devastated by wildfires) –help was needed and we were there. Men of our lodge quietly went about helping to rebuild our small town.
Thanksgiving found us providing food and certificates for needy families. After 1 months collection we had 250 pounds of food for delivery!
Christmas was celebrated at the lodge-with a twist; we gave Santa presents for the abused children’s homes. We completely filled an office with toys. We also provided specific requests from local needy teens.
We spend an awful lot of time together-always seems like something interesting is going on that one would just hate to miss!
We have monthly breakfast at the lodge, monthly potluck Bunko at the lodge, attend plays and musical revues together, and couples get together every Friday night to eat at one of the local cafes or restaurants-anywhere from 12 to 26 people will show up for dinner. We have had potlucks at the Worshipful Master’s house; progressive dinners in October and a progressive lunch in our local mountains at the Shrine Camp. When one member of our lodge is asked to “help out” in the kitchen, you will find 10 other lodge volunteers to “help out” our member.
So much of our activities involve FOOD, but how very natural when you stop to think the sincerest form of friendship is breaking bread together.
Stated meeting nights often finds the ladies of the lodge doing some craft project to pass the time until the men are done.
Our children and grandchildren quickly learn they now belong to a much larger family of loving and supportive lodge members. When one of our members is honored (as in Mason of the year) most of the lodge turns out at the banquet to cheer for him, for we are so proud of our members, in all they do. Even the Masonic picnic will find a large group from the lodge-especially if someone is entered in the horseshoe contest!
Our lodge is friendly, supportive and open to all who are members. You can be as involved as you wish, but most of our families just enjoy being together and shortly find themselves doing lots of activities with our Small Town Blue Lodge. |
