 DeMOLAY NEWS

As members of our sponsoring body we would
like to see more masons at our stated meetings held the second Wednesday of every month. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. with refreshments to follow. Remember the DeMolay of today can, with your support, become the Masons of tomorrow.

February 21st we will be holding our “OMELET SCRAMBLER” Breakfast. Tickets will be sold at the stated meeting. If you know of a young man between the ages of 12 and 21 who you think would benefit from the wonderful experience offered by DeMolay, please contact Ron Chandler at (619) 520-1847, Lew Balke at (619) 443-4177.

The Indispensable Man

A Past Master’s apron, presented with the usual eulogy,
caused the recipient to quote this humbling bit of verse.

Sometime when you’re feeling important,
Sometime when your ego’s in bloom,
Sometime when you take it for granted
You’re the best qualified in the room:
Sometime when you feel that your going
Would leave an unfillable hole
Just follow these simple instructions
And see how they humble your soul.
Take a bucket and fill it with water
Put you hand in it up to the wrist,
Pull it out, and the hole that’s remaining
Is a measure of how you’ll be missed.
You can splash all you want when you enter,
You may stir up the water galore:
But stop, and you find that in no time
It looks quite the same as before.
The moral in this quaint example
Is to do just the best that you can:
Be proud of yourself, but remember
There’s no indispensable man.

Because I am a Freemason…

I believe that Freedom of religion is an indispensable human right and tolerance an indispensable trait of human character; therefore I will stand in my Lodge with Brothers of all faiths, and respect their beliefs as they respect mine, and I will demonstrate the spirit of Brotherhood in all aspects of my life.

Will Rogers once said, "That I'm not really funny, I just watch the government and report the facts."

Ronald Reagan Quote

Governments view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases;

If it moves, tax it.
If it keeps moving, regulate it.
If it stops moving, subsidize it

There's a myth that time is money.  In fact, time is more precious than money.  It is a non-renewable resource.  Once you've spent it, and if you have spent it badly, it is gone forever.

FREE WILL AND ACCORD

we are taught that no man becomes a Mason except it be of his own “free will and accord.”  And that admonition follows a Mason for the remainder of his life, for freedom to think and act is the greatest legacy bestowed on man.

A society of civilized people must be governed by certain rules and regulations.  To some these become so onerous and restrictive that they violate them, but the majority have always been willing to accept and abide by the dictates of  law and order, provided they are fair and just and do not impinge upon the individual freedoms of vote, voice, choice and opinion.

Masonry has survived the test of time because it is a free society of friends and brothers. After that first voluntary act of seeking admission, a Mason discovers that freedom is a treasured license.

Freedom is the excitement that comes to a man when he discovers he can do something for himself.  It is a boy finding out for the first time he can ride a bike or a really big wave.  Man was bound to the earth until he discovered that he could fly and within less than two hundred years he had broken loose from the planet that had cradled him for eons and was walking on the moon.

The teachings of Masonry are disseminated by precept and example.  A Mason is known by his acts.  If his deeds are governed by his own "free will and accord," then he exercises one of the greatest gifts God has bestowed on man.

 Masonic Trivia

Who were the four distinguished men receiving the 33° of the Scottish Rite on the same day?

On October 19, 1945 Harry S. Truman, General Douglas MacArthur, General Henry H. "Hap" Arnold and General James H. "Jimmy" Doolittle received the 33° of the Scottish Rite.

Is Freemasonry a difficult organization to join?

It can be! This story gives one version: A man was checking in at a Hotel, and while at the Registration desk, he noticed a group of men heading toward a function room.

He said to the Clerk, "Who are those men?".

She replied, "Oh, they're the Masons. They are meeting in one of our function rooms until their new Lodge is finished."

He replied, "Oh yeah, the Masons! Isn't that the group that's so hard to get into?"

She replied, "You don't know the half of it!. See that man with the sword? He's been banging on that door for eight months and they haven't let him in yet!"
