Past Masters: A Closer Look

1981-FRANK OLDS

Master: Frank Olds; Senior Warden: Tom Baker; Junior Warden: Howard Coffman; Treasurer: George Dolfin; Secretary: Jim Leggate; Head Officer's Coach: Don Kidder .

At the installation, the Master was duly installed wearing the top hat passed along to him by Worshipful Art Pasquinelli, who had appointed him to the line and had served as Installing Officer. Worshipful Don Cross, the Junior Past Master, served as Host, and Worshipful Don Kidder was the Master of Ceremonies. A highlight of the evening was the privilege of having Worshipful John Hazen (Mast in 1924) as the Honorary Installing Officer.

With this fine start the year 1981 could only be a success for the Lodge. Some things were tried which weren't destined to start new traditions, such as the soon-to-be- forgotten "Baseball" night! Luckily, some other things were more successful. One thing which was started in 1981 has lived on for several years, and has proven to be quite popular with the Lodge members; that was the addition to the Gauge of the "25 Years Ago" and "10 Years Ago" sections.

The year 1981 also possessed the doubtful distinction of ha ving an extremely high number of funerals during the first half of the year. We were glad that the trend didn't continue through the year .

Continuing in the tradition of the previous year, we stressed the practices of "Good Ritual and Good Fellowship ". The Social aspects of the lodge were embodied in: Potluck Dinners, The Lodge Picnic, The Family B.B.Q., The Columbia Trip, and Widow's Night. The Major Special Event was the presentation of the Hiram Award to Brother Barney Heiner .
