At the Feb. 1 stated meeting, Golden Rule Lodge approved the sale of the
pre- sent temple property by the San Jose Masonic Temple Association to
the Redevelopment Agency of the City of San Jose. On April 15 announcement
was made that the property had been sold. The lodge voted a preference to
buy land and build a new temple, rather than rent quarters in a proposed
new building to be constructed by the Scottish Rite Bodies. May 3, Past
Master Frank Freeman presented a plaque prepared by Bro. Ralph Daugherty
to Secretary Leon Engle Allen commemorating his 31 years in that office.
May 10 Past Grand Master Chester MacPhee was a visitor at the raising of
his nephew, William A. McPhee. The annual pilgrimage to Columbia was on
May 22. The first of our
bi-monthly stated meeting dinners with San Jose Lodge No. 10 was on June
7. Resolution to increase the annual dues to $21 by amendment to the by-laws
was adopted unanimously, to be effective Jan. 1, 1972, at the Aug. 2 stated
meeting. On Nov. 1 the 1 standing resolution providing for life memberships
in this lodge was rescinded. Nineteen members were eligible for 25-year-pins
at the Oct. 25 Past Masters' Night dinner. Robert S. Whitlach was elected
at the December stated meeting as Master for 1972. The 1971 score -33 degrees
conferred ; membership, 686; Blood Bank balance, 71 pints -an all-time high
for this lodge, thanks to extra efforts by Arthur Bruns, Blood Bank chairman,
