1966-EMILE WAYNE ROGGY
When Emile Wayne Roggy was installed Master Jan. 17 at open ceremonies, it was fated to be the last time the threesome of P.M. Charles D. Griffel, Installing Officer; Past Master Harvey L. Roy, Master of Ceremonies and Benjamin H. Farrin, Installing Chaplain, would function as such together. On April 4, at our regular stated meeting, Bro. Griffel, Treasurer of Golden Rule since 1931, was honored, not only for his long-time devotion to Masonry and Golden Rule, but to the Scottish Rite as well. A plaque com- memorating the occasion was presented to him. It was Columbia again on June 4. Marvin Wright was elected Master on Dec. 5. Membership attained an all-time high in the lodge, 713. (Herewith are comments on his year by Bro. Roggy: "To start off my year as Master, I made an appointment to pick up my installing officer, but forgot to do so. At the lodge hall, I suddenly remembered him, and had to send a taxi after him-most humiliating then but good for a laugh every time it comes up. On April 4 I held a 'This Is Your Night, Mr. Mason of San Jose, ' referring to Bro. Charles Griffel, who had served 37 years as lodge Treasurer, besides being Installing Officer for 30. Bro. Frank Freeman, Master of Cere- monies, presented him a large set of Treasurer's 'keys' and a plaque designed and handprinted by Bro. Ralph Daugherty, lodge member. The plaque listed Bro. Griffel's numerous Masonic affiliations. On May 21 the lodge went to Columbia, Calif, and conferred the Third Degree on Bro. Joseph Robert Bonsall, followed by a banquet attended by 80 members and wives. On June 11 the lodge had its annual barbecue at Morgan Hill, attended by a large crowd, and on Oct. 17 the annual membership dinner followed by conferral of the Third Degree by Past Masters of Golden Rule. ("During the year we put on 7 First Degrees, 14 Seconds, and nine Thirds. The year was a very pleasant and rewarding one, with excellent sup- port by a fine crew of officers. ")
