Past Masters: A Closer Look

1956-EDWIN C. VAN DE MARK

Again, Past Masters Griffel and Roy teamed as Installing Officer and Master of Ceremonies to install Bro. Edwin C. Van de Mark as Worshipful Master on Ian. 26. At our stated meeting in February, 126 members and three visitors were on hand. Then on April 17, 55 officers and members of our lodge paid a fraternal visit to Golden West Lodge No.455, San Francisco, and conferred the Third Degree on a Golden Rule Candidate. It was a good year for attendance because 160 members were present at the annual Past Masters' Night and banquet when 25-year pins were presented to 63 members, and this was a "first" for the lodge. During the year another "first" was recorded when Golden Rule achieved the Masonic Home Endowment honor roll and has not missed since then. Bro. Milton A. Nielson was elected Master for 1957 at the Dec. 3 stated meeting. During 1956, 56 (an easy number to remember) degrees were conferred to bring the membership up to 680. ( A note in 1973 to Secretary Leon Allen from Past Master Van de Mark included the information that the Golden West Lodge visit was a reciprocal to its 1955 visit here to exemplify the Third Degree. Also this comment: "They dressed in their 'tails' ") ."
