1928-CHARLES DRENNAN GRIFFEL
~ Strangely, the only notation from the minutes concerning Worshipful. Charles Griffel's year of 1928 was that Harvey L. Roy was elected Master for 1929 at the Dec. 3 meeting. But there is far more to be said about Bro. Griffel as a dominant Masonic figure in this area for years. He was Installing Officer for Golden Rule from 1936 through 1939, with Oren Holaday as Master of Ceremonies, from 1949 through 1966 teamed with Past Master Harvey Roy as Master of Ceremonies. As Treasurer, he served his lodge from 1931 through 1967, a total of 37 years.
Of unusual interest is the fact that Bro. Griffel and Inspector Charles i English attended Masonic Lodges in the area five nights a week for five years without amiss.
Bro. Griffel also was quite a gavel maker in his furniture repair shop. They must have totaled in the scores because the gavels were given not only to new Worshipful Masters of Golden Rule, now and then to other lodges, and also to Scottish Rite officers. A dozen or more were "in stock" after his death to be given to new Masters of lodges.
Bro. Griffel, a fancier of raw oysters, at least once a year at Golden Rule Past Master Night dinners, in his 1928 year increased after-Iodge refreshment intervals from once a year to more frequent refreshment nights.
