Dear Friends and Family,
As most of you know, much of our daughter, Evin's, youth was taken up with her involvment in Job's Daughters, the Masonic-affiliated sorority for teenage girls.
In 1996-1997, Evin won the title of “Miss California Job's Daughter” and spent that year traveling around our state promoting the organization.
Today, Evin is living on the Upper Eastside of Manhattan, where she has an exciting career as a flight attendant with American Airlines.
This year, one of Evin's dearest friends, Shanna Fickentsher, a member of Evin's own local Bethel in Burbank, CA, won the prestigious title of “Miss California Job's Daughter, 2000-2001”.
On Sunday, May 20, 2001 a special “celebration” was held in Pasadena, CA honoring Shanna and 4 of the other remarkable young women who have served as Miss California Job's Daughter in previous years were on hand to show their support for Shanna. Evin flew out from New York City to serve as Mistress of Ceremonies for the reception.
In the photo above you will see (L to R): Susan Parker, Miss CA 95-96; Susan James, Miss CA 97-98; Shanna Fickentsher, Miss CA 2000-2001; Pam Sepulveda, Miss CA 98-99, and Evin Cooper, Miss CA 96-97.Not only is this a group of beautiful young women, but each has proven their worth as role models and youth leaders in their communities.
When we hear so many negatives in the news about today's young people, we should remember that there are lots of wonderful young people in America, too!

Job's Daughters History
Burbank is proud to have two Job's Daughters Bethels meeting at Burbank Masonic Building - - Bethel No. 97 and Bethel No. 208. Both groups provide an active program of leadership development and community service opportunities for young women ages 11 to 20. 10 year old girls can join a special fun program called &rldquo;Job's Daughters To Bee” prior to being initiated into active membership at the age of 11.
Job's Daughters was founded in 1920, by Mrs. Ethel Mick, in Omaha, Nebraska.
Today there are chapters, called Bethels, across the United States and around the world. Members enjoy a variety of activities including dances, parties, campouts at the beach, lakes and mountains and more.
The organization also stresses community service through its special charity, The Hearing Impaired Kids' Endowment Fund which provides hearing devices for needy deaf children. Job's Daughters in California also support a statewide charity each year. In 2001, Job's Daughters are promoting the Special Olympics by volunteering their time to help at events, as well as by raising money for this deserving organization.
Job's Daughters is the only Masonic Youth Order that requires a member to have a Masonic relationship. A young woman desiring to join the sorority, must have a parent, grandparent, step parent, uncle or other male relative who is, or was at the time of his death, a member in good standing of a Masonic Lodge. If a girl, or her family, is unsure if they have such a relative, the Associate Bethel Guardian will gladly research this link for them.
In their meetings, Job's Daughters learn valuable lessons based on the teachings found in the Book of Job in the Holy Bible. “In all the land, were no women found so fair as the Daughters of Job, and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.” From this passage, the young women of today who belong to Job's Daughters learn that it is important to develop the personal values and ethics that will elevate them in a society which, sometimes, seems to
be wavering from tradition.
Job's Daughters learn the value of teamwork by planning their own events. They learn the sense of satisfaction that comes from helping those less fortunate than themselves. They also are instilled with a sense of pride in our country, allegience to our Flag, and an abiding respect and admiration for their parents and guardians. Job's Daughters is a place where timeless values are taught, within a framework of fun and friendships that last a lifetime.
