March - April 2004

President's Message

Hello to all Nobles and their Ladies,
Well here it is March already and the Christmas holidays are only ten short months away. Many thanks to all the attendees at our annual installation of new officers this past January. It was a fun evening for everyone! The generosity from so many helped to maintain our cost and be able to put a little profit into our club treasury. From all the donated hors d'oeuvres, the bartending skills of Nobel Canterbury, the food prepared by J&L Caterers and the music of Mainline Sound the evening was a complete success. Did anyone catch Dale and Virginia Dodge dancing to that memorable song (Those Spanish Eyes)? Many thanks to the members of L.C. Kelly Order of DeMolay for the presentation of the flag and all the help with serving and cleaning up afterwards, it made our job much, much easier. The February movie night event was lightly attended. For those in attendance, we saw a wonderful movie called "The Miracle", about the USA hockey team that won the gold medal by beating the powerful Russian team at the 1980 winter Olympics. It made for a pleasant Sunday afternoon.
      Membership Dues
Nobles it has been brought to my attention that the amount of money in our operating accounts has been steadily going down to a level that is dangerously low. One of the reasons for this is that out of the ninety plus members of the Burbank Glendale Shrine Club, less than thirty have paid there dues for the year 2004. As president I find this to be quite alarming. Our dues are only $20.00 per year, per member. In almost every aspect of our operating expenses not one of them has gone down. Please check your dues card and make sure that you are current, and if you are in the arrears send in your check and regain your good standing with the club. I have appointed Nobel Dale Dodge to head up a committee to make calls and find out about these problems and hopefully come up with a solution to them. The best way to overcome these problems is by your participation in the many upcoming events that are designed to allow you to have a great time with many of your friends and allow the club to make a small amount of money to be able to put into its treasury. Please come out and participate in as many of the club events as you possibly can.
Fraternally
Chris Barnes

A word from the Webm@ster
Brethren:
OPERATION PHONE HOME

Operation Phone Home is a campaign designed with the goal of providing prepaid international phone calling cards to as many military men and women serving overseas as can be reached. It will be an ongoing effort as long as American Military Personnel serve overseas, particularly in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the Balkans.
The Masonic Service Association, on behalf of the Masonic fraternity, has entered into an agreement with the USO to participate in this program. MSA has met all of the requirements necessary to have a web site presence and a link to the USO web page and to have a Masonic Logo on the phone card. The card will include the logo of the USO, the participating phone company (AT&T), and the American Flag. On the left side of the card will appear the Square and Compasses and the words Compliments of America's Freemasons. (Image below)
Anyone wishing to participate in this program may send a donation marked Operation Phone Home to:
                              The Masonic Service Association
                              8120 Fenton Street
                              Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.
All of the monies received will go to this program and an accounting will be made by MSA at the end of each calendar year.
Or go to http://freemasonry.org and follow the links.

Thank you very much for your help!

I hope that everyone likes the new design of this page.
Also new this month is a page that our Scottish Brothers should appreciate. It explains the origination of the official United States “National Tartan Day”. A click on the link will take you to it.
Fraternally, Art Seddon
