University and Sunnyside Lodges 2006 Public Schools Event
With a strong presence of Brethren from the
Grand Lodge of California, Torrance University and Sunnyside
Lodges, the 2006 Torrance Unified School District Elementary
and Middle Schools Science Fair, sponsored by the Masonic
Public Schools Program, held on April 5th, 2006 at Torrance
High School, was again a great success.
Through the selfless organization and
guidance of the Public Schools Program liaison Worshipful Herb
Woertler, over 600 students, parents, educators and city
elected officials were greeted to a warm reception with
refreshments provided by the sponsoring lodges. In addition,
the Grand Lodge Child I.D. program was available free of
charge and highly utilized by the guests. Many parents and
educators previously unaware of the program were pleasantly
surprised and very thankful for the service.
In the opening ceremonies prior to the
student awards presentation, TUSD Superintendent Dr. George
Mannon was presented with 200 complementary Shrine Circus
tickets as a gift from Los Angeles Al Malaikah Shriners. These
tickets will be distributed to children throughout the school
district.
Highlighting the evening was the student
awards presentation, in which each of the children who
placed first for their grade level at the individual schools
were presented a trophy provided by Torrance University Lodge.
The priceless return on this investment was summated in a
statement made by Worshipful Rio Santonil at the end of the
engagement; “Did you see the smiles on their faces when they
walked across that stage? That, my brother, is our reward.”
