From the East
In my final communication
as Master of Torrance University lodge, I would like to thank
the officers and brethren who supported the lodge and made it
a productive year. The events that transpired in our lodge
which serve as stark
reminder of the fragility of our existence of harmony within
the lodge. At the same time, however, they appear to have
given rise to a strong affirmation of our sense of fraternal
bond, belonging and family togetherness. The outpouring of
support and caring for the welfare of the lodge has been
nothing less than remarkable.
This is the kind of lodge
involvement in which everyone is a winner. I appreciate your
positive attitude and your ability to motivate people to
contribute to a good cause which in the end the lodge will
benefit.
Many of you have
contributed personally to a process of coming together which I
believe we have seen here in our lodge over the past four
months. I want to express to all of you my deep appreciation
for the courage and the sensitivity you have displayed
individually and collectively. I am very proud to be part of
the Torrance University family.
I believe that the work in the lodge is just beginning.
"We (the lodge) appreciate
you". That message cannot be repeated often enough, by those
who lead and serve the lodge and by those who actively devote
time. We highly appreciate you having dedicated and chosen to
devote to this great fraternity, one so fundamental to the
craft, and the fact that you continue in it, despite - and
often because of - the challenges we face as a whole. We value
the initiatives you take in opening doors of knowledge and
tolerance for each member of the craft. We are aware of what
your profession demands of you, of your responsibilities and
of your rights. We acknowledge the difficulty of your task as
officers and active members, and the fact that it takes
patience, perseverance and a decent atmosphere to promote
harmony and brotherly love. We appreciate the care you take to
direct your knowledge to serve those in need, and your
awareness that all members have individual needs. We value
your ability, developed through training and vested
experience, to listen to the brethren and to shift the
responsibility of being a learner from your shoulders to ours.
In sum, we appreciate you, and we call upon officers, members
and families of the lodge, to find a way, to tell you just
that, in our own words and in our own way.
