From the East
As we progress through the
year, I would like to report to the brethren that we are
progressing well in our programs. Being able to provide a
forum to provide informative sessions about other Masonic
concordant bodies and the programs each support where our
members including the ladies and our families would learn and
understand why we are dedicated to the business in which we
are engaged. The programs have been very successful to date.
We have had various speakers come to the lodge and speak about
the Masonic Student Assistance Programs (MSAP) and scholarship
programs by Worshipful Art Weiss and the Grace
Dee
Mays
Museum (Al Malaikah Shriners) by Worshipful Sean Foran, PM. In
the coming months, we will have speakers from the other
concordant bodies such as the York Rite – Eye Clinic and
Scottish Rite – Language and Speech Clinic to talk about the
programs they support as well as how they interrelate with the
Blue Lodge. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you
want to hear a speaker on any particular subject, if it is
feasible.
On April 3, 2006, Worshipful
Sam Pitassi, PM, Executive Secretary of the Los Angeles
Masonic Service Bureau spoke about the services to its
constituent lodges and Masonic assistance that the Bureau
provides to its members as well as sojourner brothers who are
in distress. According to the ladies and brethren that were in
attendance it was helpful and informative. In addition, I
would like to thank, Brother Edmundo and Sister Cecille
Sebastian who graciously provided the meal on April Stated
Meeting / Family Night Dinner.
On April 5, 2006, Torrance
University’s
Public Schools event for the month of April was held at
Torrance High School Auditorium.
Torrance
University in cooperation with Sunnyside Lodge sponsored the
87th Annual Science Fair for the Torrance
Unified
School District which was attended by over 500 plus families,
school and city officials. On behalf of Torrance
University
lodge, I want to extend my sincere appreciation to Sunnyside
lodge (Bro. Howard Orpe and Worshipful Ernie Castillo) in the
collaborative efforts and preparation for the Public Schools
event. In addition, I would like to specially recognize the
efforts made by Worshipful Herb Woertler, PM in the event
preparation between the
Torrance
Unified
School District and City of Torrance as well as taking the
lead on behalf of Torrance
University
lodge. As Chairman of the Public Schools committee, Worshipful
Herb was instrumental in making the event successful as he
recognized that most of the officers, having to provide for
their family and work constraints could not be in attendance
for the preparation phase of the event. We thank you for your
hard work and making us proud of being a member of
Torrance
University
lodge. I would also like to extend my sincere appreciation to
Right Worshipful Fredie Davies the Grand Junior Deacon of the
Grand Lodge of California including Worshipful Bert Ferris who
were in attendance to share in our community outreach efforts
as well as participating in distributing the trophies to the
elementary kids who participated in the Science Fair.
On May 27-28, it will be the
United Scottish Society Festival at Pamona Fair Grounds. This
is one of the highlights for the lodge. Brethren and ladies,
in preparation for the event, we are asking for assistance for
volunteers to cook and sell. We will be selling “Bangers”,
soda and potato chips as part of the activities for the United
Scottish Festival. Kindly sign up with Senior Warden Bro.
Jesse Medina for a time slot that you will be available.
Please do not hesitate to
contact me should you have any questions. (310) 561-2130.
Fraternally,
Rio L. Santonil
Worshipful Master
