FROM THE EAST - May 2005
Brethren:
I would llike to thank Penny and Ted Schuman for hosting the April Stated Meeting Dinner and an extra thanks to Penny for setting up the Ladies' entertainment. Spyros Pappas and Star and Marco helped set up and decorate the dining room on Wednesday evening and Ethel and I really appreciate that. Thank you.
We would like to thank those that helped clean up after the dinner; Joyce Foo, Star, Barbara Gross and Heather Holme and others who we just didn't get your names. Again, Aaron Shubb did a great job with the Stated Meeting Dinner and on behalf of the members and their Ladies that were there... thank you Aaron.
The March event was the Brunch, Games, Movie and Dinner. Chairman Jerry Shubb, Aaron Shubb and Jack Press did a great job and we all had a wonderful time.
At the April Stated Meeting, Worshipful Marty Honig announced that he and his Lady Gayle are moving to the Palm Springs area to live. Marty and Gayle have been active members of the Lodge for a number of years and they will be sorely missed.
Marty is a member of the Building Association and will be resigning effective May 1, 2005. This will create a vacancy on the Board and which I announced at the April Stated Meeting and will be filled at the May Stated Meeting. The process for filling Marty's remaining term, which ends November of 2006, is for those present at the meeting to elect someone who has been duly nominated to replace him. Nominations are open to any member of the Lodge who feels he is qualified and is willing to devote the time required to adequately do the job. Qualifications would include a knowledge of business practices and of building management. Then at the proper time, to get someone to nominate you stating what you believe are your qualifications. There is no pre-approval by the Board or the Lodge required.
I am sure there are many members of the Lodge who would like to serve but are not sure how. Not everyone has the time or inclination to be an Officer, but there are other jobs just as important as being a member of the Building Association and I would like to give interested Brethren an opportunity to run for these positions.
Fraternally yours,
Stanley J. Higgins, PM
