FROM THE SOUTH - September 2005

Hail Brethren!

These last few months have been extremely busy for me so I apologize for my lack of an article last month. Good news or bad, there were no new candidates last month, so at least I didn’t forget to write about any of our newly obligated brethren.

This month I don’t have much to discuss, as I have not been able to focus 100% on my duties as Junior Warden. I did want to say that we did have an excellent membership drive which resulted in applications both blue and yellow and has also peaked a local community interest in our Lodge. This community awareness should be the most important focus of our Lodge. Our Child ID and scholarship programs are two very strong steps toward cementing our relations with our local neighborhoods and I hope to see more types of these programs emerge in the near future.

I was told once that a Lodge should be a pillar within its community. As a pillar, we can support our neighbors and help them to better themselves. And isn’t that our motto? To take good men and make them better. Why must we confine ourselves to just members of the Lodge. Instead we can look to the San Fernando Valley as a whole and help better it. Obviously, this is no simple task and could not be done solely by our membership; however, with each community service involvement we take part in it ultimately adds to the greater goal. In spirit of this, our Lodge has recently voted to make its Child ID program available at each of the valley fairs later this year.

If you have any ideas on types of programs you would like to see in our Lodge, feel free to email me at jbayhylle@gmail.com, or send us a letter, or come to one of our Thursday meetings and tell us about it. The more active we become in our community, the more people will learn and benefit from our ancient institution. In turn, our Lodge will become an even greater place of esteem and integrity. As the saying goes, “If we build it, they will come…”

Cheers!
