From the Ladies' Corner

This year is really slipping away. As I'm writing this, it is the middle of May already.

Thank you to Sandi Stanberry for our terrific entertainent at our May Stated Meeting Dinner. Ginger and My Lady were most entertaining and so were their owners. I don't know about anyone else but I sure learned a lot from all of them. I think the most important thing I learned and want to pass on is the Hug a Tree program. For those who missed the meeting, Ginger and My Lady are search and rescue dogs. They came to the meeting to show us what they do in a rescue of a missing person. Ginger's trainer spoke to us about a program that he is involved with called Hug a Tree. When you have small children or grandchildren and you take them to a park, teach them that if they ever get lost, to simply "hug a tree". That way they will stay put until the rescue people or dogs can find them. The tendency is to keep walking and try to find their way back, but in reality they wander further away and get more lost. So teach your children or grandchildren to "Hug a Tree". I love that!

At our April meeting, Haven Hills gave us a wish list. They are always in need of paper goods. Kleenex, toilet paper, diapers, paper towels, etc. The other thing Jacquie said was that they need kitchen things; flatware, dishes, pots and pans, drinking glasses, storage containers and canned food. When the women leave the shelter and go out on their own, they are given what they need to start up - so it always needs to be replaced. Oh yes, and they need towels and twin sheets also. If you want to help, bring them to me and I will see that they get what they want.

June's entertainment is going to be one of our own ladies. I'm not going to tell you who she is or what she is doing but I promise it is going to be fun. So... come and join the fun.

Once again, please let me know if there is anything you have a question about or if you would like to have some kind of entertainment at a meeting that we haven't had. You can always call me.

See you next month,
