From the East

Brethren

Brotherly Love, Relief, & Truth – the three principle tenets of Masonry.

As I write my comments from the East every month I try to recap the previous month, review the coming month, and comment on Applied Masonry. As I write this I am looking at the Feb calendar and the three events scheduled for the last week and it occurred to me that these events are the very reason that Our fraternity exists today. On Tuesday of that week representatives from the Masonic Homes of California made a presentation on Planning for the Future. The Masonic Homes of California, which are supported by the Brotherly Love of all California Masons, provides many benefits and programs for the Relief of our Senior Citizens. On Wednesday Members viewed the new training Video created by the Institute of Masonic Studies of the Grand Lodge of CA.  This video is intended to enhance the Entered Apprentices’ knowledge of the rituals, symbols and emblems used by our fraternity to assist members in their discovery of the Truth. On Sat., as an example of our Brotherly Love, Our lodge prepared a luncheon to Honor the Sweethearts of departed Brothers and Masters who have served us in the past.

As for March, there will be an Officer Practice on the 4th and Our stated meeting preceded by a potluck dinner on the 11th. On the 16th there will be a District Officers’ Association Meeting in Atascadero and all Officers are expected to attend and all Master Masons are welcome. There will be no Officer practice on the 18th because many Officers will be attending the 50 Year Award dinner for Worshipful Dan Wasson in SLO. All Masons are invited. Let me know if you would like to attend so that I can give them a head count and we can arrange to car pool from Wells Fargo. All members are encouraged to bring family and guests to the Fire Fighters Dinner on the 25 to honor our local Fire Agencies.

Fraternally, Jerry Harbick, PM, Master

PROCLAMATION

YOUTH ORDERS MONTH

"Building for a Better Tomorrow"

The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of California holds our responsibility to the young men and women of the Masonic Youth Orders - the International Order of DeMolay, the International Order of Job's Daughters and the International Order of Rainbow for Girls - a privilege which calls for each and every one of us to participate.

To support our youth, today and every day, is a part of our appointed work. I call on you to assist our Masonic Youth Orders in any way you can. There are many meaningful things that we, as Masons, can do. We can attend their meetings, serve on their Advisory Boards, offer to assist with quality leadership training, give them an extra hour of our time.

I know every Mason in this jurisdiction realizes the importance of guiding our young people today. We as Freemasons are obligated to dedicate and commit ourselves to support these intelligent and patriotic young people. They are the future leaders of our Nation, our communities, and our lodges and are destined to preserve the great heritage of our country through the use of moral and ethical standards of the Masonic Fraternity that they have learned as members of our youth orders.

Every lodge and every Master Mason must enthusiastically support these Youth Orders! It is more important now than ever before. How very rewarding it will be for us individually and collectively to assist and encourage them, to strengthen and supplement their young efforts and help them become better than we are.

But our interest in them must be more than just words; it must constitute action. Our example to them must be in the deeds we do, which prove our sincerity; the understanding

that proves our character. It must be in the recognition that proves our faith in them individually and together, and in their and our future.

Knowing that each Master Mason in this jurisdiction will respond with fraternal love and charity of heart to this Masonic responsibility and to the privilege of encouraging, guiding and assisting our Youth Orders in all ways possible,

I therefore PROCLAIM the month of MAY 2009 to be YOUTH ORDERS MONTH and I direct that this Proclamation shall be read by the Master at the Stated Meetings held during the months of February, March, and April 2009, and that this Proclamation be included in the Lodge Trestleboard. And most importantly, that each lodge in this Grand Jurisdiction shall host special meetings or programs which include one or more youth orders, in order to exemplify our sincerity in our expressed interest and love in them. They are our future and it is up to us now to show that we mean what we say.

Dated this 26th day of January, 2009.

Sincerely and Fraternally,

Larry L. Adamson

Grand Master

FROM THE SECRETARY

FROM THE SECRETARY

Our Lodge membership is now 122.  Of those, 4 are in the Masonic Home, another 8 we remitted dues, including 4 new ones this year.  The average age of our membership is 68, with the youngest at 24 and the oldest at 94.  Nine members have not paid their 2009 dues yet.  Worshipful. Connie is after them though.  Good news from the Temple Association: they have got their legal recognition as a non-profit from the IRS.  The Hall Association status is still pending.  Financial reports are all completed for 2008.  The Lodge is holding about even (the dues increase was necessary).  The operation of the facilities on Sherwood Road is not as well.  The rental of the facilities is crucial to keeping solvent.  Brothers Jack Proffit and Will Strong have been working their tails off to keep us afloat.  Loads of thanks to them.

Your Secretary,

Benjamin D.V. Minter, P.M.
