What is Freemasonry?

Freemasonry is the oldest and most prestigious fraternity in the world.  We are kind of civic club, a charitable institution and a fraternity all rolled into one.  ------ We are like a civic club in that we do a lot of community and statewide projects.  We are like a major charity in that Masonry gives away almost $2,000,000 every day to help other people, mostly children.  Most importantly, we are a fraternity of men doing good things for each other and trying to bring men of good morals and ethics together in our community.

What is the Mission of Freemasonry?

Our mission is to promote a way of life that binds like-minded men together in a world-wide brotherhood that transcends all religious, ethnic, cultural, social and educational differences; and by teaching the great guiding principles of brotherly love, relief and truth; and, by the expression of these principles through its fellowship, its compassion and its concern, to find ways to serve God, family, country, neighbors and self.

What does Masonry offer the Individual?

Masonry offers a lot of pride and a sense of belonging to an organization that exists all over the world.  It offers the sense of being a part of a great heritage and of sharing an identity with the greatest men of the past --- and of today. (See the page entitled "Other Masonic Information."

It offers a sense of sharing a very special bond with men from all walks of life --- of creating life-long friendships with them.  It offers the positive feeling that comes with being part of an organization that believes in toleration --- that lets each man think for himself and express his own opinions without worrying about being wrong.

What about our Lodge?

Paso Robles Lodge No. 286, F. & A. M. was chartered in the 1880s, and has been a strong, positive force in the community ever since.  We have our stated monthly meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of every month, starting at 7:30 with a nominally priced dinner or a pot luck served at 6:30.  Our membership approximates 140 members.  We also have a number of special events during the year, including; Firefighter's appreciation night, Public Schools night, Law Enforcement appreciation night, Sweetheart dinner or brunch, and others.  We participate in the "Child identification Program" sponsored by our District.

We are located in the city of "El Paso De Robles," better know as Paso Robles.  It is a city of about 25,000 located on the Central Coast of California, about 30 miles north of San Luis Obispo, and about 25 miles inland from the famous Hearst Castle in San Simeon.  It is largely an agricultural area, with the traditional product of Beef Cattle having been replaced in economic importance by Wine Grapes.  It has developed a reputation as an area that produces some of the best red wine grapes in the State of California, and the vineyard acreage has been rapidly expanding.
