Masonry 101.1

¡±and improve myself in Masonry¡±

FREEMASONRY IS ?

Thomas Jackson 33º, former Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania, poses an interesting hypothesis. ¡°I perceive there to be four distinctive styles of Freemasonry, philosophical, sociological, political, and charitable.¡± The United States and Canada qualify as charitable, while Central America is political.  South America is sociological, and Europe is philosophical. When one thinks geographically, conventional wisdom would probably be in agreement.

MISSION AND VISION

(An example worth emulating)

The mission and vision statement of the Grand lodge of Virginia is very succinct:

¡°The mission of the Grand Lodge of Virginia is to teach and perpetuate a way of life that promotes the Btotherhood of Man under the Fatherhood of God and to assist its Lodges to grow and prosper.

The vision of the Grand Lodge of Virginia is to be the premier organization composed of men of integrity and character, who are honest, true to their word, believe in God, are devoted to family, charitable in their community, and courteous and helpful to each other.¡±

Both of these articles taken from the March, 2008 issue of the Southern    California Research Lodge Publication

Editor¡¯s note: On a number of occasions, articles are taken from the monthly publications of the Southern California Research Lodge and published in the trestleboard. These articles are only the tip of the iceberg of knowledge which is available in their publications. Also available from the Research Lodge are books on Freemasonry. The March issue of their publication had six pages of books available at prices much lower than the popular book stores. With all of the information available in their publications each month and the availability of books on Masonry at a discount, its really a bargain to be a member of the Research Lodge and to ¡°improve yourself in Masonry.¡± Information can be obtained on their website or by contacting Norma Leeper at 2097 Smokewood Ave., in Fullerton, 92831 or by e-mail at LeepSan@aol.com
