During summer weekends, assist with American River
Boat Patrol

civic events

Neighborhood Watch Programs
S.T.A.R. REQUIREMENTS –
You must:
a.
Be retired and at least 50 years of age
b.
Have a valid California Driver’s License and a clean
driving record
c.
Have no criminal history
d.
Have the health and stamina to be on your feet for
four or more hours at a time
e.
Attend a two week, four hours per day, S.T.A.R.
Training Academy and
f.
Complete 3 patrol-training rides with a S.T.A.R.
Training Officer
g.
Attend the Citizen’s Academy conducted by members of
the Sheriff’s Department when scheduled (generally
within your first year)
h.
Commit to a minimum of 16 hours service each month
i.
Attend a monthly Station Meeting
j.
Purchase and wear a prescribed uniform (estimated
cost about $ 100.00)
