Master's Message —Worshipful Tim Veneck, PM

From The East...

December, 2010

Masters Message

Once again we come to December which includes a variety of holidays, holy days observed by people of various faith traditions. For some December includes days of feasting and for others there are days of fasting.

Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, a Jewish Holiday begins the evening of December 3rd This festival commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over the Syrians in about 163 BCD. Chanukah is observed for eight days. Each evening, candles on the menorah are lit, games are played, gifts are exchanged. .

Christmas will be celebrated by many Christians on December 25th as they mark the birth of Jesus and the incarnation of God as a human being. Some Christians celebrate the birth of Christ on January 6th• The twelve days of Christmas run from December 25 through January 5th• The day is observed by many people by spending time with family and friends and by exchanging gifts and greeting cards.

Kwanzaa begins on December 26th and is a time observed by African Americans who celebrate the African tradition of gathering together at the end of the harvest. It is observed for seven days and on each day there is a focus on one of seven different principles: unity, self determination, collective work and responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity, faith.

However you observe this time, may you have peace in your hearts.

See you in lodge,

Fraternally;
